Asked before but does anyone else still have leaves on trees that should have dropped weeks ago?
I still have leaves on two of my Japanese Maple's and on my Lacebark Elm.
....it is absolutely the worst tree on planet earth to have next to or near a pool. For some dumbass reason, the landscape designer that did this backyard years before we purchased this house put that tree in and it hangs over the pool. I've forgotten who it was at this point, but I looked them up and they are a high dollar landscape firm for the rich in Dallas now. I've always wanted to contact them and laugh at their ignorance of putting this tree where they did. But I'm also the dumbass that has kept the tree in place. It's just too pretty to remove and it would dramatically change our backyard.
I didn't know this tree species when we bought the house, so our first fall here was eye opening. You can't believe how much crap this tree drops from about October-Jan/Feb. It has 3 different drop phases:
- Phase 1 (Octish): It first drops this fine black seed/powder in one fell swoop on one day that gets everywhere.
- Phase 2: (Nov-Jan): It then drops seed pods that look like mini corn flakes. They get everywhere, even in the house.
- Phase 3: (Nov-Jan): Leaves. Also, the squirrels cut the branches, so you get 4 to 5-inch stems with leaves on them constantly dumping into the pool and backyard along with individual leaves. The leaves are small at about 1 inch in length and about a .5 inch in width. They also get everywhere.
Do not ever put this tree anywhere near your pool. I'm actually going to invest in a custom cover this year solely because of this tree.
