I may go out and cut down a tree limb to knock out a wire at about 8/9 pm. Just to get out ahead of Oncor and be first in line.

Light rain, upper 30's. Kroger was super crowded so I skipped that but Total Wine was pretty reasonable. Reporting from on the ground in North Fort Worth.

We keep ours at 68. Our bedroom & our 4yr old daughter is the hottest and if it was set at 69-71 we would fry

Maybe you don't? Blood flow tends to retreat from the extremities in cold weather. Mouths are warm.

I think he's on point here.

Aren't you the one who last year bragged about "only" using two tvs and a computer to help conserve power during the blackouts?
planoaggie123

Wow that is impressive / obsessive memory.

Yes, I did have a TV on downstairs and my computer on...and I think at one point my kids turned on the tv in my bedroom....could be wrong but those few items pale in comparison to the power suck of a heating system...also did not have pool running like many others etc....

This year if we keep power I will just shut everything off if that makes me a better human...

Toll roads in Tarrant County are closing so that the operators don't have to maintain them.

https://www.star-telegram.com/news/weather-news/article257967708.html

Quote:

The company that owns the Interstate 35W toll road that was the site of a deadly pileup a year ago said the managed lanes in Dallas-Fort Worth are being closed ahead the winter storm.

"The entire DFW Managed Lane System is being closed due to the impending severe winter weather storm," NTE Mobility Partners spokesperson Robert Hinkle said in a Wednesday email. "In coordination with TxDOT, we closed the managed lanes throughout the region so that we can focus our efforts and resources on the main lanes of travel."

Six people died in a 133-car pileup on a stretch of toll road north of downtown Fort Worth in February 2021.

Dumb question - pool has anti-freeze protection that runs the pumps/water features.

Does the water still flow through the heater even if it isn't running? I assume so therefore I wouldn't drain only the heater because essentially if the pumps are running its going through it?

I've never seen one that doesn't. Question. is the pipe coming out of the heater to the return the only pipe going to the return? Bc if it is that's your answer.

Was 37 and drizzling while I helped my FIL cover palms and wrap the well head in Aledo.

Yes, unless your heater is plumbed to bypass it with some special equipment. There's no real reason to do that, so in practically all homes it does.

Thank you sir I very much appreciate the offer.

As I took the pic I was able to answer my own question.

The inlet to the heater comes directly from the filter, then the SWG is immediately after the outlet so it has to run through it at all times for the SWG to do its thing when the weather is warm enough to matter.

since we are talking heaters and the fact that i forgot to drain mine.....

I vaguely remember the pool guy doing it last year....i feel like it was more of an air release vs a plug at the bottom...i think i release that valve and put my multiport valve to waste and let it drain that way? The heater does not hold a ton of water, does it?
Garrelli 5000

If it is like my Hayward there is a plug on the side b/w the in/out pipes that looks like the plugs from the other equipment. There's also a PVC cap right next to that plug that needs to be removed as well. None of the PDF files mentioned the PVC cap that was different than all of the other plugs in the system therefore I missed it. No internet available at the time so no videos to watch.

Fortunately it only cost me the manifold and not the entire heater.
Staff - take out the trash.

OK. Thanks.

Mine is an old Ray Pak Versa....tried to find an old manual online with not much luck....i know about the in/out but will need to see if I can find another....i assume the ones you ahve are on the "shell" and not something you have to remove any covers to access?

edit: it doesnt look exactly like mine but i found this for winterization of something that appears similar on ray pak:

Open drain cock located on the inlet/outlet header,
(under water pipes). Tilt heater to completely
drain all the water from the heat exchanger

it also recommends disconnecting the compression fittings too

Sorry...this is 100% turning into a pool discussion vs weather discussion.....

but....is the PVC cap you are referring to what connects pipes to heater (seperate and let drain)? or is it a plug type thing like you find on pumps....
