Some of these models are showing the freezing line moving through a little faster than previously thought. Hoping that is the case as it means more snow and less freezing rain.

Even the weather channel (which is usually very conservative) has the change from FR to Snow happening quicker. I think wunderground is forecasting a little over 2" (twss protected) in my neighborhood around the Denton/Little Elm area.

It all depends on how large the Warm Nose is which will determine the type of precipitation.

If that nose was wearing a mask, we'd be ok.

Stupid question maybe....when bleed air filter do you close it back after or just leave it open and close it back when open the pool back up?

I always leave my open when I bleed it regardless of weather. My dumb self would forget to open when turn back on.

Appreciate that.

So when do you close / tighten it back after opening the pool?

Yes. i close after I prime, turn on, and then let the pump push all the air out. I have cartridge filter and so my air is pushed and releases as at top of filter which is high point of system.

Ok. I have a DE Filter....not honestly sure how it works but after doing some googling seems to be the right approach. thanks again!

Heading home around 3 or so today to give myself plenty of time....pool guy did this last year....my turn this year...just hoping I dont have issues with plugs not wanting to come out, etc...

I'd imagine it works really the same way. Pool systems regardless of set up have the same basics in how they operate; pump for circulation, filters, sanitation. the different styles just execute those items differently. I mean they really aren't that complicated even though anyone who works on them will tell you they are.

I know we're focused on the storm in the 72 hours or so, but the longrange GFS model is showing an absolutely massive winter storm for the week of Valentines Day. We're talking 36-48 straight hours of snow and temps in the teens on 2/15-2/16 for the state north of Hillsboro/Waco. And the same but freezing rain for the rest of the state south of Waco. It would be an absolute **** show.

Just something else to watch two weeks down the road. Again, do not take this to the bank as we are way far out, but this time next week we'll have a much better grasp if other models come into agreement.

The latest model runs have DFW and surrounding areas below freezing until Monday.

Whatever falls tomorrow and Thursday is going to be here for a few days.

After that ridiculous showing of "winter" in December, I'm all for as much snow and ice as possible!

Who's with me, gang?!?

My pool guy is already scheduled to come today so I may just have him drain everything and then I don't have to mess with it. I'll have plenty to do tomorrow covering plants.

I'll see if my strategy of only planting shrubs / plants that handle -20 work this time out.

Up until last year this was my default position

Now I'm gonna be filling up the tubs tonight...

I mostly have that now, but I did replant Pittosporum because I like them too much. Those are getting covered.

And my Podocarpus Pringle's Dwarf.

My dang coworker, who has surgery tomorrow and is out the rest of the week, just said she doesn't think it'll be that bad and everyone is overreacting.

Now that she's jinxed it, I fully expect The Day After Tomorrow type weather

My 'hope' is bad as in ability to get out but not bad as in power outages.

I do think there is a lot of "recency bias" from last year in reactions...including my own lol....my wife thinks i am a bit over-doing it too....

I know for your situation my "hopeful" scenario does not help you with your commutes....my brother is in medical field and he is planning to sleep at work for 2 nights....

I've seen 3 models, 1 has us above freezing Thursday, one is Friday, and one is Monday.

Even last year, when it didnt get above freezing the roads were clearing with just sun. Even if it does stay below freezing until Monday, anything that is not an overpass will be completely drivable by Friday midday.

My wife will sleep at her hospital tomorrow night. She made beau coup OT last year filling in for those who couldn't make it in AND she avoided almost freezing to death like I did.

Yep. Anything remotely around 30 with sun will thaw out and dry off. And it's showing the sun will be out with partly cloudy skies.

Did we get .25-.5 inches of ice to start?

I hope the ice part doesn't verify. If temps drop faster than modeled and we transition to snow quickly and don't get the ice, we should be good.

We got snow first thing last year. I went running on Sunday in the snow. Heavier snow and colder overnight and power out at 5 AM Monday. The "rolling blackout" then lasted about 48 hours for me.

Same with the running. It was great until it wasn't.

Well, my pool guy said not to drain equipment. Just do it if I lose power because it's better to keep things filled and running. It's not like I'm going anywhere anyway so if we lose power I'll just step outside and pull the plugs. Takes about 5 minutes so not a big deal.

The weather nerds do. They must stay in the Texas equivalent of their mother's basement until their weather radios go off.

Mine said the same. I covered my equipment so that if I do have to pull plugs I'm not dealing with melting ice first.

To me the issues are if you don't wake up if power goes out while sleeping and even if did wake how miserable it could be doing it in freezing weather vs 60s.

No right answer on this. Just what makes you feel better.

Draining pool equipment and pulling baskets out of skimmers is done. Now I'm sure to retain power for the length of the event.

btw, neighborhood Walmart in W. Plano pretty busy for 2pm on a Tuesday.

What was the situation with the big pileup on the toll road in Fort Worth? Was that part of the big storm or was that a separate deal?

There is hump in the I-35 Express as you head south near downtown, and had iced over. Oncoming traffic was unable to see the pileup, came over the hump going 70+, was unable to brake in time/turned into curling stones, and just started stacking up.
