Great video! All the really successful teams I've coached or played for had above average 6s. Such a vital position.

Quote:

United States midfielder Tyler Adams said the "it's all or nothing" for the USMNT for qualifying for the 2022 World Cup -- if and when international play resumes.

"I really have to prepare myself that the next time I put on the U.S. jersey, it's all or nothing, there's no more preparation matches," Adams told ESPN's Taylor Twellman. "It's either you go out there and win or we're not going to another World Cup."
Nice to see some urgency.

I generally played centrally as an attacking mid, sometimes in a 3-5-2 but usually 4-4-2. Our coach stressed a version of total football, so we would have a lot of practices/scrimmages where we play in all sorts of positions, but generally for games that's where I played. As I got into junior high and high school, I hit my growth spurt to 6'2 and tended to play more as a second striker ala Bergkamp.
What made all that happen though, was we had just a total baddass defensive center mid. You couldn't take the ball off of him, and he would constantly break up attacks or put people on their ass to stop one. He was a great passer as well.
I think i might have come around to the point where I think its entirely possible the 6 position is more important than having a great 10.

I applaud the USMNT players standing up for what they believe in, but wish they would be more informed before speaking out on political topics.

Zack Steffen claiming white supremacy in the U.S.?

He'll fit right in with the dim-witted athletes.

We're all better off just ignoring what they have to say, whether you agree with them or not. I only know who you are because I want to watch you play soccer.

I'm glad they're using their platform to advocate for causes they feel passionate about.

I am all for that as well. I just don't let it have any impact on how I feel about them in regards to the MNT.

I hope Pulisic, Adams, Steffen, Long, etc. boycott the '22 World Cup (if they make it) since they have come out publicly against racism. Stadiums built by slaves and stuff.

Sidestepping White's point, I do wonder what steps FIFA will take to tamp down any sort of political statements players might make in Qatar. They've recently been vocal about a supporting players speaking out. Bet that support disappears quickly as 2022 rolls around.
Mr. White

But would you say they're hypocrites if they don't boycott?

Is it hypocritical to protest a thing in one context but then fail to do so in another? Yeah, absolutely.

I know I'm guilty of that as well, so I'll hold off throwing stones at them.

I understand, but it seems a little different when they outwardly criticize the country that's paying them and then tuck tail when it comes to something far, far worse (IF they do go play in Qatar).

Reminiscent of NBA/China

I think our country can handle people demanding it be better.

Personally, I wish the USSF had the balls to make a public statement regarding Qatar. FIFA won't make a peep, we all know that.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

USA was the first country to be so advanced that it had the bandwidth to address the notion of racism. These star players gladly play in more racist countries in front of more racist fans because of the prestige and money. So sorry if I stop caring to support these hypocritical spoiled puppets.

Then we better not see you in any threads when WCQ starts. Because you stand by your convictions, and some 20 year old kids talking about what they think offends you.

OR, you could just think they are dumb, and watch the games anyways. You don't have to be invested in their lives to enjoy soccer.

This is 100% whataboutism distraction material.

And I think everyone feels a little more compelled to protest, to do some activism, when it comes to their own country; when it comes to the country whose colors they wear.

Yeah why care about the hundreds of thousands of men living 10-20 a room in no air conditioning with little food who have had their passports seized. They arent americans so they arent human? The atrocities they are experiencing make all your problems trivial. They have no hope. They have no future. Their existence is not much above a concentration camp. You cant even grasp the despair they feel.

I would love it if a country took a stand to boycott Qatar but the odds are so slim.

Deal. In the meantime takeaway all government subsidies to the program since it is now a political apparatus.

How about the players? Would it be OK for an opposing player kneeling during the Qatari national anthem? It's certainly easier and safer to kneel during your own national anthem on home soil but to do it during an opposing team's anthem at an away game requires much more assurance and bravado. As an example, Rapinoe kneeling in protest during the US national anthem at a NWSL match in Seattle seems much safer and easier than kneeling during the Mexican anthem while playing in Azteca.

Neither I nor anyone has said do not care; but calling someone hypocrite without addressing the issue at hand is the definition of whataboutism.

In an actual soccer update. Antonee Robinson has been cleared to play and is now back at training at Wigan.

Playing in front of fans you have praised for being great even though their ancestors and even some of them may have helped commit genocide against Jews, gays and the disabled but saying america is bad because of slavery and that's where you draw the line. Um yeah that is quite clearly hypocritical.

I'm out on them, too.

This is all about them not liking the guy in charge of this country. I really believe that. I'm not a fan of the man either (I wrote someone else in from the R party), so I'm not throwing a They Don't Like My Guy tantrum. It's the dishonesty of the people that are speaking their minds. They're just going along with the crowd. They haven't read any stats, etc.

Voting for Trump and also believing there is a racism problem is possible. Stop trying to make this into a presidential politics issue.
