Consistently?

He was bad at Spurs and he was bad at Forest. The only reason why people think he was good is because last season his team was insanely lucky by every standard metric. He's still getting traction off a couple good season at Wolves 5 years ago.

Who is your pick? Someone that would reasonably take on this s- show with the salary constraints and high expectations.

I was fully behind the Amorim move but admit now he is way too stubborn.

Oliver Glasner. He has overachieved everywhere he's been including currently at Palace. Both he and Palace know he's highly unlikely to sign a new contract there at the end of the season so he'd be relatively cheap to get. He plays a 3-4-2-1 at Palace so the transition to him with this roster should be easier than with another manager. I think he ticks all the boxes. Nothing at United is ever a sure thing but he would have a lot less risk than the Amorim hire.

His biggest negative is that he inevitably falls out with his club's decision makers for one reason or another. But United need to stop looking for the manager who is going be their manager for the next 10 years and start looking for the manager who is going to be their manager for the next 3. Who is the guy that can get you to a EL spot in the league the fastest while adhering to a general club philosophy in regards to style (and actually develop that philosophy like you said you would rather than hire a manager and just adopt his style)? They are way too far away from where they ultimately want to be to expect to find one guy capable of taking them to get them there. If they ever get there again, it will likely take 2-3 different guys at different phases of the project.

I heard last week one of the reasons EtH was insistent on signing Onana was because he was signed with EtH's agency. No one else had a valuation anywhere near what United paid. A manager also being an agent is crazy.

I remember he specifically lobbied to have a major role in all transfers as a requirement for him coming to United. United were of course happy to oblige because well...they're idiots.

Hojlund is apparently another client.

I can't open the IG link, but I kind of assumed he was getting payment from SEG from signings. If you'll notice, managers with a say in recruiting are often connected to agencies that players join shortly before they are acquired. It's not a clean business.

I vaguely remember Hojlund changing agents shortly before we bought him. According to transfermarkt, Hojlund is the only player we have from SEG that I see. Pep is also a client, and they have a number of players on City Football Group teams.

You know Amorim is on borrowed time if/when I've become apathetic toward him. I'm generally one of the last to convert from "he needs/deserves more time" to "it would be fair if he got fired".

I'm not fully there, but I'm getting close. I'll probably be fully there in another month unless I'm given a reason not to be between now and then and, I'm not optimistic that I will be given a reason.

I will say the way I heard it originally is that he was the owner or at least a major owner of the agency.

But, deeper research, it seems he has a deal with his agent or is a partial owner of SEG or something. Either way, it still sounds like there's still enough there to question some of the values.

I think at some point no one can ignore the record. But, what's worse than getting pounded by a superior City is not putting up a fight. Looking like a championship squad just come up to the Premier League. Where was the passion from anyone on United?

I also think he got his selection very wrong. There was already enough evidence to suggest that you can get to City. Starting Mazraoui at RWB was uber defensive. And I've already seen enough of Amad at attacking mid to last me a couple of months. But put him at RWB and that side of the pitch becomes much more threatening. It's one thing to be stubborn to tactics and formation but he also seems to be stubborn in personnel. I'm not sure how he can have watched the first 3 games and have come to the conclusion that Amad is a better attacking mid than Mainoo is a central mid especially when putting them in those positions means you effectively shut down any attacking contribution from your RWB.

I'm not saying it would have made a difference. But I do think in general think it's better to set up with an attacking mindset rather than a defensive mindset especially when it's a rival, and especially when you've invested so heavily in the attack, and especially when your opponent has looked suspect in 2 of the first 3 games. He set them up to play scared and they played scared.

everyone basically said you almost never sub centerbacks unless there is an injury. why does he keep making those switches?

I don't need to see any more. Amorim has had a year to instill his system. A year. And the players look as bad at running it today as they did a year ago.

Do they not like it? Are they so out of position that they are incapable of playing it? Are they so bad at soccer they are unable to play it?

It's Amorim's job to make it work. That means finding his players' strengths and weaknesses and creating a system that best utilizes their strengths and at the same time minimizes exposing their weaknesses. He flat refuses to do that.

Do the players have some measure of responsibility here? Sure. A 3 back system isn't a crazy soccer formation or system and why they seem unable to play a 3 back and know their responsibilities means they are either idiots at learning their craft of just so bad at soccer that they are unable to do it correctly. Frankly I think they just aren't very good soccer players. And that makes Amorim's job harder.

But the fact that he refuses to modify what he calls his system to suit what they are good at is just mind boggling.

More time won't fix this. Either a complete roster exchange to smarter and better players for his system or swap the manager to someone who can find a system the existing players can play better in. Take your pick.

My assumption was that he subbed in Maguire for Yoro in an effort to be more dangerous on set pieces since his team wasn't creating anything in the run of play. I don't think that's a good enough reason but it's the only reason I can think of unless Yoro was nursing an injury or something.

Yeah I think he was just trying to get some of that Maguire header offense. De Ligt has mostly been pretty good this year, but I wouldn't have been opposed to starting Maguire, actually. Maguire has usually been pretty good against Haaland because of his size. Oh well.

I think the point being made is if we go back and look at the matches he's regularly subbing CBs which is not normal. Tim Howard as a former goalkeeper would be watching those kinds of trends closer than we would. If he says, it's an odd way to manage a defense then I'm inclined to believe him.

Yea SEG clearly isn't "his" agency. But there must be more to it than just hey he uses my agent so let's sign at an inflated price. Or as was apparently happening at Leverkusen only look at players in the fold.

Well, Yoro did get done pretty bad by Doku for the third goal, so he can't feel all that hard done by. But I think it was more for Maguire's offense.

Casemiro pretty clearly pulled him back before he got the ball on the tackle. I have no problem with that card. Stupid stupid stupid from Casemiro.

I don't have a problem with it per se, but for a tug is a little harsh for a second yellow. Arguably, though, you can't complain when your team is up by a man, and you couldn't call it an unfair first yellow under an even game.
