Mainoo coming on was the signal. Mount going off was the confirmation. The lack of defending thereafter was a feature, not a bug.
I think Amorim decided that his team was going to give up dangerous opportunities regardless so he decided to make the game a coin flip and go full throttle chaos. It nearly worked, but he pressed his luck when he asked that team to try and defend for 10 minutes with a 4-3 lead.
The fact that Ugarte couldn't see the pitch when up a goal in the 80th minute is damning for him...or for Amorim. I don't know. But the easy, obvious choice would have been him on for Mbeumo after Cunha scored. May not have mattered but those 11 players were highly unlikely to hold a 1 goal lead for 10 minutes plus stoppage time.

Didn't realize that Casemiro's yellow means he misses Villa on Sunday through accumulation. One would assume that, away to a good team, a defensively minded player like Ugarte would be the natural replacement but he has played a grand total of 31 minutes in the last two months and that's not because United have been defensively sound. But a Bruno/Mainoo central midfield away to a good team also seems unlikely. With the AFCON players gone, Casemiro suspended, and De Ligt/Maguire still out (I think), it's likely to be a patchwork team/formation.

This is probably going to get me labeled a bigot or racist or something, but the amount of backbending that UEFA and FIFA do for AFCON is absurd. Having AFCON the same year as a World Cup is ridiculous.
