So. 1-1 draws at home against WHU and Wolves. Good thing we eeked out a 3-2 nail biter over Burnley or it would have been the trifecta of home draws against the 3 teams headed for relegation.

I got up early to watch only to find the lineup from hell waiting for me.

Lammens. Shaw, Heaven and Yoro the back 3. Vomit. Dalot and Dorgu at wingbacks. Your central mids are Licha, Case and Ugarte. Holy hell. Sesko and Cunha up top.

There are 6, yep 6, kids on the bench. Zirkzee and Malacia are the only "veterans".

We are actually relying on Luke Shaw to be able to start every game so we don't have to start a youth player at CB/LB. That's the state of things at the moment.

In a weird way the lineup worked. This group seems to understand spacing so they had room and space to pass. But they were so bad at it the passes either missed their target completely or the receiving player had to lunge at the ball to get it.

It's working about as well as can be expected but understandably run into issues when Dalot, Shaw and Casemiro are tasked with creating opportunities and Dorgu is asked to finish them. He did well in one half against Newcastle and he's going well today all things considered. But clearly see the impact of an inexperienced player (in the position) playing the role.

My bar is perhaps too low but I don't expect much at all given the absences. I'm not upset with that performance. Away to Burnley is the last game this squad in its current state can maybe get points out of before they run into teams that will murder them. Going to need both AFCON returns and Bruno in short time to have a chance in the upcoming, City, Arsenal, Fulham (away) run.

Amorim's post-game comments certainly indicated that. Even made it sound like he doesn't intend to stick around after his contract is up (assuming he's allowed to see it out).

That said, I'm not reading too much into it. But it probably means his rope is a little shorter than perhaps people thought it was.
