Is Christina in a simulation?

Is that why Christina didn't walk into Bernard and Maeve at the fork?

I guess that makes sense, just wish they'd have maybe talked that through a bit. For all the exposition William gets in this episode I didn't really understand that sequence. Which is really bad considering we saw it twice.

I'm just not sure they laid the groundwork for that twist. A good twist makes things click into place, this one just raises a lot of questions. If she isn't real, was the guy she was on a date with just talking to himself in a restaurant?

And if not, and it's an augmented reality thing… why..?

I mean, they showed host William at dinner messing with two people he'd never met and they didn't know. Why couldn't her date be having dinner with an empty chair and no one notice?

It was jarring, but since it was a flashback to Bernard in the sublime I think they were trying to make it seem like an out of place jump.

Have to admit following everyone's motivations has been tough for me this season.

I couldn't tell you for the life of me what Bernard and Maeve were trying to do this episode, either at the dam or at the tower, or why Hale was ready to transcend, or what William is doing now. Is it just me?

I think I get it, but I tend to give the creators a lot of credit until they prove they can't land it. So there's a lot of pressure on the next episode.

They could, but why? What's the point?

Also the outlier guy that could see her, and jumped off the roof. I thought the whole thing with them was they had broken their programming and could see things that were hidden from them, like the tower. But he could now see things that aren't there?

I get that it's possible to look at each scene and explain it away somehow, but I just feel like a good twist doesn't raise more questions than it answers.

Namely, why? So hale has a program Dolores but she doesn't want it to know it's a program? What was the point of the bathtub scene?
bobinator

I get that with the opening scene, it was intentionally jarring, but then they just ran it back again for real.

Like BES said, it's been hard to track what exactly anyone is actually wanting to do this season and why.

I thought the bathtub was to prove she couldn't die (or at least not easily)

Not sure why Hale created her, but all of my questions on that are the same if she's a real host or a simulation of one.

But that's the kind of scene that's annoying me. We saw her interact with the water. If that's a visual trick on the audience I'm not a fan.

Bernard is trying to save humans (and probably hosts?) from extension.

Maeve is sort of tricked into helping him, but in the end decides that 1) kicking ass and 2) dying are the things she's best at.

Well I'm fairness I thought NYC was a simulation from the start. At this point if the whole thing is taking place in a 4th inception level of the sublime most fans will never watch again, but I assume that when she interacts with stuff it's the whole matrix "your mind makes it real" thing.

where are they extending to?

The nearest LAN port.

No, the best way I can think to explain it is she's like an Alexa. She can interact and control devices (and everyone is a device, so to speak) but she doesn't exist in the real world. Only things programmed to see her can see her.

Like Teddy said, the world is real, she isn't. (Though neither is he, presumably.)

That said, I'm not sure that makes any sense based on what we've seen.
Right now, this is how I see it as well. And like you said, im not entirely sure how it really makes sense or enhances the story but I guess we will see.

That said, I think this episode is an example of this show being enjoyable to watch. It does need the violence, imo.

Doesn't look like anything to me.

Real to her and real to the audience are different things though. I'm hoping there's more to it next episode because I'm pretty annoyed with where they left that this episode.

I mean, they could also be physically real but made invisible by the super mind control? So they are in the world but not really. What if they really are drone hosts and no one can see them but the drone hosts are controlled by a computer Delores/Teddy in the Hale sublime. I agree that it's convoluted no matter what.

But looking back. How else was she really able to leave the city in episode 3? (When she also mind controlled some people.)

I think the point about not knowing characters' motivations is a good one. I have a vague idea, but it's not super clear to me how it informs their actions.

One of the things I've realized has lowered interest in the show is that every episode tries to be over the top (often at the expense of plot), at some point you just become numb to it.
Last week they had that whole 100 plus tries for Caleb to make great TV, when Hale could have done it with one. Why would she waste her time on such an elaborate setup with countless tries that she didn't need? Those tries each took a day or whatever it was. And there was no reason to burn him when she could just replace the Pearl. At the same time, she infiltrates the outliers camp and does nothing to stop them, like send an army etc. She had no reason to bait them to come this week when she knew where they were last week. But again, you need the big scene this week so plot continuity loses out.
Had it been really well set up this year, the ending to this episode could have been epic. But now it's just another big plot device that may or may not make sense in a week, and will go in a big circle anyway.

Well at the very least we know that Hale isn't dead. I think we should probably assume Maeve is alive as well. Bernard seems pretty dead. I assume at this point he was leaving instructions for Hale on that tablet when William walked in. So I sort of expect a change from her when she is brought back on line.

William wants to pull the plug on the sublime. It will be up to Hale to save it.

I thought he was either leaving instructions to himself, or was watching instructions FROM himself. Bernard is tricksy

I don't watch anything that isn't the actual show.
Discussing with people in here is fun, and Im sure some of them do watch it, but I don't see the point. The show should be enough on its own, imo.

The real question is, why the hell did ERW leave her underwear on to get in the tub???? Most unrealistic thing I've ever seen.

I get it if she doesn't want to do nude scenes anymore but there were a million different ways to do that scene better.

It's because she was trying to kill herself, no need to go fully nude

So when Bernard planted that gun in the tunnel, that didn't come back up right? I think I caught him saying something in the video he was recording like "you can't miss", I'm thinking that's why he planted the gun - for whoever he recorded the message for.

Not yet but, given that a preview showed Robo-Bill back at the Hoover Dam, I am sure it will make an appearance soon.

Has WW been renewed for Season 5 or is there a chance that this is it? I know that no character is every truly dead, but they did kill off three of the main characters last episode.

I don't know if it has been officially been renewed, but Ed Harris said in an interview that 5 will be the last season.

Pretty sure Amazon already funded the final season in their deal for Nolan and Joy to make fallout.

I don't think any of those three are really dead.

MAYBE Bernard is, practically zero chance on the other two.
