I watched 10, 11, 12 this morning and then went straight into R1. It does make me wonder how they knew Jyn was on Wobani in the Imperial labor camp.
Maybe Saw was still keeping tabs on her when she was arrested so he knew where she ended up. Thus Tivik would possibly know and inform Cassian? Seems a bit of a stretch

Watched all 3 new episodes last night and then the first part of R1.

Watching Cassian's interaction with Tivik in his first scene in R1 is really amazing in light of the last 3 episodes of Andor. His reaction to hearing Tivik say the name Erso is seen in such a different light now, and it's amazing to think that scene was shot 10 years prior to Andor season 2. Plus seeing Cassian kill Tivik so matter of factly, having just seen Luthen do the same thing to Jung is really interesting as well.

R1 and Andor have been like a photo negative of the much more bubble gum Star Wars shows and movies, and that has made them so much more enjoyable to watch.

The final fate of Dedra is so perfect. Showing how when you give it all for a fascist regime, that regime may still discard you and throw you in a cell to rot at any time.

And Partagaz having more sense than Dedra to see that fate coming and take the one way out.
Thanks and gig'em

Every person here should bow down to the sheer genius of Aggie Journalist, who picked 3 of 4 deaths correct in the Andor Deadpool, including being the only person to pick Partgatz and Lonni.
None of us picked Syril.

Found it really interesting to go from the ISB being seen as a menacing and competent force, to Krennic being so insultingly dismissive of them. Even referrering to an ever increasing ISB death march (or something to that effect)

all depends on perspective i guess

He is completely right about telling people you don't even have to like star wars to really enjoy Andor.
Should have also said "and if you like star wars you will also really enjoy Andor"

I really enjoyed that aspect of the show.

Not only humanizing characters like Dedra and Syril, but showing how no matter what your ranking is within the Empire, there's always someone above you basically abusing/manipulating you.

(And the same is done to Krennic in RO.)

A couple of random thoughts:

- Were the scenes with Andy Serkis cut or was that big misdirection? Someone had posted that he was signed on to reprise his role in the last three episodes. I could see a place for it with Dedra ending up at Narkina but I think the actual final montage was better.

- Was Kleya supposed to be Cassian's sister? I couldn't tell if they were suggesting that or if she's some other random orphan.

- The flashbacks to her life with Luthen were great but I didn't quite catch the origin story. What war were we seeing when Luthen finds her? I gather she somehow blames the Empire for her situation but I'm not clear on what Luthen was doing.

- I'm not sure the Alliance council scenes worked and this may be a place where a longer run of Andor seasons would have helped. We don't get a clear picture on how Luthen has fallen from grace and its a bit jarring given the previous three episode arc. It feels more like they should have been jumping on Kleya's intelligence given how we see Rogue One going. I think the Saw scene feels a little crammed in there also. Again, probably would have been better in a longer season.

- I'm glad we got some closure on Perrin even if my prediction was wrong. It's too weird to have Mon pretend her family doesn't exist after leaving so having him shacked up with a courtesan makes it work a little better.

The ISB's problems at home go right back to Andor's speech to Luthen in Season 1, Episode 3.

  • Luthen Rael: Takes more than that, doesn't it?
  • Cassian Andor: What? To steal from the Empire? What do you need? A uniform, some dirty hands and an Imperial tool kit. They're so proud of themselves, they don't even care. They're so fat and satisfied, they can't imagine it.
  • Luthen Rael: Can't imagine what?
  • Cassian Andor: That someone like me would ever get inside their house, walk their floors, spit in their food, take their gear.
  • Luthen Rael: The arrogance is remarkable, isn't it? They don't even think about us.

The guy they're after is a shuttle ride away for years and they don't even consider it. They don't ever question Lonni. Dedra is so smug she has no idea her computer is hacked. When they go after Kleya, they're assuming she wants to flee, then when things go south at the hospital they assume it's a team of at least 3 agents, but it's 1 woman who they're all over the place looking for, and then they get their asses handed to them by one of their own droids, which they apparently forgot to build a kill switch into.

When they think they know their enemies- organized units with military gear - they're great with all of their superiority of tech and numbers. When its grass roots - they look like idiots.

You could see it in their faces when they realized the extent of what Luthen had in the shop and the ship.

Had the morning off so jumped right in the last 3 episodes. Man what a ride. The story telling and layers or characters is so well done. I found myself switching from excited, to nervous, to sad throughout these last 3.

When it ended Disney suggested I watch RO so of course I did. That movie takes on a whole new feel now that you know the back story and sacrifices Andor and others have made.

- Were the scenes with Andy Serkis cut or was that big misdirection? Someone had posted that he was signed on to reprise his role in the last three episodes. I could see a place for it with Dedra ending up at Narkina but I think the actual final montage was better. Have no idea

- Was Kleya supposed to be Cassian's sister? I couldn't tell if they were suggesting that or if she's some other random orphan. I definitely started thinking that when they showed Cass have a flashback to her at the end, but it just seems like lazy writing which this show hasn't done. She's just another orphan from a planet wiped out by the Empire

- The flashbacks to her life with Luthen were great but I didn't quite catch the origin story. What war were we seeing when Luthen finds her? I gather she somehow blames the Empire for her situation but I'm not clear on what Luthen was doing. Sounds like the Empire doing Empire things and wiping people out. Not really a war. We never are told where she is from exactly.

One comparison I thought of was The Patriot. The Continental Army wants to fight a regular war against the British. Straight up with big armies on a playing field. Mel Gibson's character is fighting a clandestine battle and taking out key parts via dirty tactics. The Alliance council doesn't want to do that (they think its beneath them to fight dirty) while Luthen has zero issues it. That's why they don't want to deal with him or Saw. Saw even says to Mon in Rebels, "If you continue to allow this war to be fought on the Empire's terms, not yours, you are going to lose." That's why the Alliance doesn't want to deal with them. Several of them lack the stomach or have too much pride to fight dirty. Luthen uses the tactics of his enemies to defeat them.

- I'm glad we got some closure on Perrin even if my prediction was wrong. It's too weird to have Mon pretend her family doesn't exist after leaving so having him shacked up with a courtesan makes it work a little better. Perrin getting hammered with the mobster's wife (his daughter's mother-in-law)

This is probably my one complaint (although it's a small complaint). The time jumps after each arch and the fact that the entire season was released in 4 weeks had a couple of those jarring moments where you realize some of these characters haven't seen each other in a while, even though it was just two or three weeks ago that you saw them together.

Also, really liked having Partagaz playing Karis Nemik's manifesto there at the end. I started a fresh watch with my wife last week and we're currently in the Aldhani episodes, neat little coincidence.

Just finished so posting a quick note. Just a fantastic show. Trying not to have recency bias but from a standpoint of casting/story/direction/all around execution, that was as good as prestige TV gets and would not be out of place being discussed with the greats. Really a fantastic show and a Star Wars high water mark. Loved it!

Just realized Partagaz blamed Krennic for his failure to contain the secrecy of the Death Star. Had Krennic finished in time, Partagaz wouldn't have come across as a failure. And Krennic just replies, "I can't protect you, Leo."

Some good humor in these episodes, but none better than BOTH of the Imperial techie types rambling on about stuff that's exciting to them.

The woman at Luthen's telling them all how cool it was that he had the pulse transmitter on the building next door and her co-worker shaking his head like "Not now, bro"

and then the guy running the video at the hospital trying to tell Heert how his cousin applied for ISB and Heert telling them "That means I only have to tell you to shut your mouth one time."

That was really, really funny.

A New Hope is the happy story they tell the kids in the Star Wars Universe years later that grow up without living under the shadow of the Empire.

Andor is a historical anthology of what really happened...

(The sequels don't exist in this scenario, obviously)

This was a freaking Masterpiece! I love how it seamlessly segued into Rogue One.

Soo well written, acted, shot, and directed. I hope it wins all the awards and Lucasfilm/Disney give us more adult Star Wars.

Although I wish we had more seasons, and a more fleshed out 5 years, I kind of think the time jumps gave it a bit of frenetic pace and a sense of urgency, that put you in the Rebellion's shoes. Except we knew the ticking bomb was the Death Star.

That was so good. The characters arcs are so well defined across both seasons. And knowing where everything is going lends a tragic feel to these characters. For those saying this gives R1 an all new meaning, I agree wholeheartedly. But I had the same thoughts about ROTJ after ROTS. Amazing how world building filled with meaningful, interesting characters can see so much continuity even with years between them.

The only gripe I have with Andor and Rogue One - this shows definitively that Disney can, in fact, produce Star Wars content that resonates with dang near everyone. It just takes the right filmmakers and screenwriters who understand Star Wars, both at the base level and the more wide spread look at it.

I haven't thought of until your comment, and I don't see it mentioned on the thread. But it just struck me that Bix left knowing she was pregnant and knowing that Andor wouldn't continue his mission if he had a kid. She said in episode 9 that she was leaving because of "us" but she wasn't just talking about her and Andor.

Alternate take: Cassian knew he had knocked her up, and started taking suicide missions to other planets because he didn't want to see Bix get fat.
