Gets to coach his childhood team. A dream come true regardless of the roster.

Not really Cowboys related but do we think McCarthey rocks with his old pal A-Rod next season?

Well, I don't know how the Pats really compete with what Seattle is going to roll out for the Super Bowl. Finally time to make up for not handing the ball to Marshawn.

Lost in the glitz of the last two years is the fact that Darnold is still the same turnover machine he always was. Other parts of his game have improved and because the gap between what he does well now and what he did well in New York or Carolina is so vast, people have kinda been blinded by that aspect. But if he turns the ball over 4 times in the SB it wouldn't be surprising at all.

Correct. If Sam Darnold turns into the same pumpkin we've seen at times almost no one can over come that. But if he's what we saw last week or even this week, it's wrapped up.

Either way, the SB champion will be tied for the second-longest preseason odds in Super Bowl history or have second place outright:

1999 Rams: +15000
2025 Patriots: +8000
2001 Patriots: +6000
2025 Seahawks: +6000

Didn't you call Seattle fraudulent for like 3/4 of the season?

I really don't understand why the Seahawks had such long odds. They went 10-7 last year and added a big upgrade at QB, DeMarcus Lawrence and Cooper Kupp to an already very good roster. I guess just because there were two teams perceived to be better in their own division?

They can never make up for that supremely bad decision. Just horrible.

I don't get it either. If you really look at their roster it's absolutely loaded from top to bottom, but especially on defense. Yeah Darnold could blow up at any minute and ruin your season, but outside of him on a bad day or their coach being an idiot they are extremely good everywhere.

Agreed. Worst call in Super Bowl history. Haunts me. Whenever my buddies want to ruin my day they send me that play gif. I literally stared at the tv after that play for 30 minutes. I couldn't understand how Pete lost his mind at that moment.

That play put Malcom Butler on the map and made him 10s of millons

And it fractured the team. Crazy how one play can destroy a team and forever label a player/coach. Pete was never the same. The team was never the same.

My cowboy buddies love to troll back and forth. Today I sent them this picture. They sent back that play gif of Wilson throwing the pic. I lose every time

The marshawn lynch not getting the ball play is just too f-ed up to use to troll imo

Kinda like the Arkansas baseball pop up where they had three guys in a triangle trying to catch the foul ball and they all miss it and it would've won them the college World Series. Go on to lose it.

Have a close buddy who is a hog fan and loves to rip on A&M but I can't throw that in his face because it sucks too hard.

Sports are a real ***** sometimes. As all Aggies know unfortunately

What do y'all think of Jeremiyah Love?

I'm looking the guy up because you gotta consider him if we get wiped out with our defensive targets (not so much at 12, but our pick at 20).

He's a good back that appears to do everything well, including catching the ball. He reminds me a LOT of Tony Pollard. A slippery back that eats up yards running while defenders hands and arms appear to fall away. To my eye he appears to have more power than Pollard, but he doesn't quite have the same initial burst (although the top end speed is definitely there).

At the end of the day, I'd love to have another Pollard on this team, but I'm not sure we can afford to spend a #1 on him unless he's far and away the highest rated guy on the board. As a prospect, he doesn't jump off the page like recent backs have (Jeanty, Gibbs, Robinson)... he does not compare to those guys from a physical talent perspective, but the guy is damn good (possibly elite) at understanding the art of running the football. The way he sets up defenses with patient running and decisive cuts is special.

Definitely no problem with him as a "break glass in case of emergency" pick. Not as physically gifted as other recent 1st round RBs, but he could end up being a better pro than any of them with the way he plays the game (Emmitt Smith was not the most physically gifted RB either). Would pair amazingly well with our O-line!

I really think he's going to be a top 10 pick and won't be available for us to draft at all.

If that's the case (and teams have him rated that high) he really would be an option for us at 12 I suppose.

It's still way early, pre combine, but it's starting to look like we are crap out of luck with it being a very down year for elite/ top 10 QBs and O-line guys. Gotta think the top 3 edges are gone, Downs is gone, and possibly our top CB/LB prospects as well.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

It's actually a pretty great draft overall, it's just the overall lack of QBs that is going to be killer for teams that believe they already have their guy. Because no one in front of them is going to be taking a chance on a QB and letting a real top 5 or 10 caliber player fall to something like 7 or 12. One of the few drafts where we're going to see a lot of players go where their talent dictates they go instead of QBs being inflated.
jr15aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Exactly. The pipe dream of a Caleb Downs or Rueben Bain type player falling is going to be disappointing for a lot of teams drafting in the 10-15 range.

Should still be some exciting prospects for us at 12 though. WR is about the only position we have no business taking (assuming we tag/sign Pickens). Dallas needs a couple WRs and a couple O-line guys go top 10. That should be enough to leave us with a couple options at either LB, Edge, CB or possibly Love.

I just really hope we aren't in a position where OT is the best player on the board... I don't think I could stomach another 1st round O-line pick.

One guy I am very interested in during all of the pre-draft/senior bowl stuff is TJ Parker from Clemson. I think he's got stretches of really good tape at Clemson (less so this year because they were done so early-on), is 6'3"+, and going to check in at 260 with good length. I don't think he's going to be a guy who's taken before 12 or even necessarily at 12, but definitely in play at 20 I think as long as he tests well.
jr15aggie

I'd target him more for 20. I'm hearing we might start going to more odd-man fronts (fits our personnel better). So yeah, he might be an OK fit for that kind of scheme (be like a Marcus Spears sorta pick as opposed to D-Ware).

Unfortunately Dallas has put themselves in a position where they don't have the luxury of picking a RB with either of the first round picks no matter how good they are. Unless they go crazy in FA and acquire a high level starter at each of the three levels on defense prior to the draft you just can't do it. And even then, given you need about 6 new defensive starters, I don't know that you can afford it.

Clemson DL like Michigan DL, scare me.

At this point I want to see one actually pan out before I waste a pick on them.
Woods Ag

We should 100% move to 3 DTs if we keep them on the roster. 1 rush end. That solidifies the front 4.

Then we can focus on 1 DB and 1 LB. 1 comes from FA, and one from the draft is ideal. Le'Veon Moss amongst many others is a better option at RB.

The Michigan guys are completely valid, although I think most of the guys from their group last year panned out for the most part. I don't have much scare for Clemson guys. They've got a bunch of good players in the league.

They've had a decent haul of DTs recently. Mainly, Dexter Lawerence that buoys that group.Their DEs since Gaines Adams have been abysmal. Some real freaks on that list too.

I buy into cultures and stereotypes with regard to college programs and the players they produce, and without looking in detail (so i could be very wrong) it feels like they have a bunch of supremely athletic, highly rated guys, that don't amount to much more than JAGs at the NFL level.

Yeah, with our DT group and possibility of moving to an odd man front, I wonder if our new DC feels like Arvell Reese would be a perfect piece to add as LB/Edge guy. Seriously doubt he is going to be available at 12... not surprised if he's top 5... but as a "tweener" you never know I suppose.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Arvell Reese is probably the best overall NFL prospect in the draft this year imo, and probably in the opinion of many others. Dudes athletically a freak at 6'4" and 245, can play some stand-up LBer and be great, can play OLB/WDE and be great as well. He's also still only 20 years old. He may not be a pro-bowl guy right off the bat considering his age and that he's best suited to play rush WDE, but his upside is all-pro type stuff.

I've seen mocks were all the top edge guys are gone including Arvell... one of the top CBs was gone... and Sonny Styles was gone too.

But don't worry, the top WRs were all still available!!!

Worst case scenario for sure. We just have to hope that at least 1 WR and a couple OL get pushed up the board so there are still some good defensive picks at 12.

I think there's a good chance Francis Mauigoa AND Spencer Fano go inside the top 11. O line is just too important to ignore for some of these teams, and both guys are very very good (Mauigoa is borderline elite). I'm looking at Tenn, NYG, Washington, KC and Cincy to be specific. Jordan Tyson, Love and Carnell Tate are the only other non Mendoza's that I think have a chance to go top 11, but I could easily see a world where teams on draft day would rather get someone on defense instead.

Would you be upset if our first round haul was LB - Jacob Rodriguez and Rush End - Cassius Howell?

That's probably right about where both of those players could go. I'd be happy it.

Rodriguez is nearly universally regarded as a day 2 player. I don't think I've seen a single mock with him going in the top 20.
