Figured we may as well get this one started. Looks to be pretty wet going into the weekend and again into next week.

Go figure. As soon as I get a grading permit, it's going to rain and cause even more delays.

I'm trying to plaster a high end client's pool that's been scheduled for tomorrow for a month and now it's going to rain too much randomly to actually get it done

Well that was a loud and annoying night. 2.2 in last night. Don't like that we are getting more this afternoon.

6 inches at coit and Campbell. Drove home from Springfield MO yesterday and it rained on me pretty much the whole way. Brief respite from maybe Anna to home then started pouring right after I got unloaded

Crazy how a mile or so can be the difference of +/- 2" of rain.

Blessed with the rain yesterday and sun today.

And for those who like to follow these guys, they always seem to have lots to say about the weather!

First post in 2 months. Boring winter so far- potential for some action next weekend per Ponder.

Ponder got really bad as soon as he started trying to do more than DFW and when he is called out on his posts he will point to some random spot and say "see….wind gusts!!"

I also noticed that he complained heavily about the government cuts when Trump took office and the effect of less weather balloons being sent up. Since then his long term forecasts haven't been nearly as effective. I'm assuming he just lacks the resources now that the on air personalities have and use.

All the tv folks get data from the same place. They were all impacted by less balloons and less data last year.

That said... models are definitely pointing to a weather storm next weekend. Will be 2-3 days before this can be really confirmed.

Heavily caveated this far out but if you need to do winter preps and don't like to wait until the last minute, time to start.

Save yourself the trouble, order or pick up anything you need to winterize now. Then you can avoid the Idiocracy on Thursday if it looks like it may verify.

All the model runs overnight coming in with a 2021 like event for much of the state.

For us, showing up to a foot of snow Saturday, low of 0 / high of 8 for Sunday, temps below freezing through the following Thursday, with another round of wintry precip in the Tues / Wed time frame.

Also possible is an ice with accumulation event on Friday preceding the snow, which would be problematic.

The last time the models across the board all locked in the same was the 2022 icemageddon. National Weather Service Fort Worth also put out an advance forecast this morning calling things out. They are on board with winter impacts as early as daytime Friday, and even mention the possibility of having to dismiss school early Friday to get people home before the precip starts.

I was supposed to go to a conference in Lubbock this weekend.

Here's hoping they call if off early.

Not sure why so many actively root for events like this to happen. They always back pedal as if they aren't rooting for it, but let's be honest. It's a total pain in the ass for everyone...seems like the only answer I hear is some form of "snow is cool to look at"

When Delkus changes his avatar to Pete Frost on X, I'll start to get concerned. Right now he has it getting cold but above freezing both days with at best a 50% of precip.

Storm2K is convinced it's a state wide apocalyptic ice event, maybe with DFw getting lucky and being on the snow line for a while. Being down in cleburne, we are always the last to get the flakes in the metroplex.

The only certainty right now is that's it's going to be cold this weekend. All these other "ice age", "2022" and "once every 5 year storm" stuff is just fear mongering and completely unnecessary right now. There is no way to know if the storm out in the pacific will line up perfectly with the artic air at this time.

The kid in me always roots for one good snowfall each winter. Certainly don't care for the "Icemaeggedon" scenarios though.

Same. Would love a good snow for the kids.

F ice accumulations and things like that.

WWYD? We leave Wednesday, back Sunday.

We did not lose power in 2021. Kept the pool running, no issues other than replacing my impeller afterwards. Thinking I take the Polaris out of the pool, turn off the Polaris booster pump timer, then let the pool pump kick into freeze protection and run for the duration.

Other option would be flip the breaker on the pool completely, drain the pump, and drain down below water line with a submerged pump before Wednesday when we leave. Decision doesnt have to be today and can wait another 24-36 hours to wait and see.

Let it run. In years past I have just let my freeze protection do the job but I've had issues with my freeze protection lately so I just turned mine off and run the pool continuously.

I cover my equipment to protect it a bit and keep ice off of it. This also keeps ice from forming in the event I do need to go out and drain it(that doesn't help you if out of town however).

I'd probably drain the equipment. Won't take too long and one less thing to worry about.

Gave him a bottle of bourbon and it was worth it, but would rather not have to call in favors like that when I know better.

As someone who had to FaceTime and walk a neighbor through draining our equipment when the power went out during a previous storm, I'd drain it and prep ahead of leaving.

Definitely pull your cleaner. Cold water temps are bad for orings.
