It might be thursday before I can get out of my house. Still a ton of ice on the driveway and the alley.

Drove from mid-cities to downtown FW a little before noon and then back in the 4:00 hour. Roads were wet (both times) but otherwise fine. I'm downright shocked at how little drying out the roads did. I know it was overcast most of the day but I can't believe how much water was still on the roads in the afternoon.

Yeah, it's amazing how much work the sun does with radiant melting. 35 and sunny would melt and dry this stuff far better than 45 and cloudy.

One plus...all those with "Be Patient, Student Driver" bumper stickers didn't dare go out.

If there's freezing fog tomorrow we will have run the gamut of winter precipitation?

I saw freezing fog in the forecast …

I literally don't know what that is

Maybe it's just me but those people don't annoy me at all. They're in the middle lane so as not to interfere with people merging or going faster in the left lane. These are unusual traffic conditions and people are being cautious. I'd rather that than the hardos in the Honda civics with the spoilers who think they're in a fast and furious movie.

100%

People don't monitor this thread 24/7 and don't know what the next mile is like until they get to it.

It's the idiots passing the cautious drivers that are causing accidents, not the cautious drivers.

If I hadn't given up flipping the bird I would've done it a couple of times on the 20 frontage road. But I gave that up a few years ago.

Quitter.

I've been paying close attention to the weather/forecasts since I was a kid in far north Texas and had tornadoes or high winds interrupt my sleep. We (my family) spent parts of several nights in the hallway as it was the safe spot in the house. Hell, I even took Meteorology at A&M and had a friend who did his undergrad in it (entered grad school, too). Like you, I've never heard of "freezing fog" until the last day or two.

Where does the fog come from in supposedly dry air? I could probably understand it if we were in a coastal area, but 400 miles inland?

Incidentally, Denton, Collin, and Dallas county courts are all closed Wednesday. However, Tarrant is open, I think Parker is also open, but Johnson appears to be closed.

Steve McCauley is my go to for all things weather. His assessment:
"Temperatures climbed well above freezing this afternoon into the upper 30s to lower 40s and contributed to more melting of the ice and snow. This is a mixed blessing since more humidity has now been added to the air, and this will condense into fog and areas of mist during the predawn hours and lingering into mid morning.

Since temperatures will be in the 20s in the early morning hours, this fog/mist will freeze on any object it comes into contact with, including roads. So in addition to the refreezing of the water on roadways tonight, we will have a very thin coating of ice on top, especially across the northern and western half of the region where mist, in addition to the fog, is most likely.

So, do not let your guard down if you need to be on the roads in the morning! And yes, classes cancelled again tomorrow for SMU, UTD, and Dallas College. More video lecture production for me! ;-)"

Drove from Arlington to Fort Worth. Freeways are clear except for a little ice on bridges. Side streets are still icy.

I just drove from Prosper to Addison. DNT was mostly clear but needed 4x4 before I made it to DNT and after I exited.

Headed to the airport this morning from SW Fort Worth. Main roads are down to concrete. Some side streets and neighborhoods are still snow/ice.

Drove my wife from Lake Highlands to Presby this morning. Round trip took 50 minutes (normally would be 25ish). Super icy. I had to move out of the "lanes" into the rough stuff to stop a couple times. Turning from Walnut Hill to Greenville took work and a couple tries. There were quite a few cars, especially high-end rear wheel drives, stuck on hills.

If you can avoid driving, I would.

Took my dog to school this morning. Pretty much all neighborhood roads. I crossed Marsh, which was fine. More traffic out than I expected. Made it there and back just fine. I was worried about a couple little hills, but they weren't an issue as long as you were going slow and kept moving.

I made it from midway hollow to HP and back and then midway hollow to victory park no problem via DNT. It took about the same time as usual despite going slower bc no traffic.

Already above freezing this morning and the sun is out. Hopefully the clouds can stay out west during daylight hours, so we can get a good melt.

Yes, today will finally do some real damage and it looks like it will stay above freezing tonight, so primed to finally clear this crap out entirely

Big thing is the fog (aka lots of moisture in the air) causes new spots of ice to form on roads/highways (especially any elevated bridges and onramps).
Which it seems like we will get more of tonight and tomorrow morning.

I don't think we'll have to worry about that since it's going to be 46* and sunny. And the overnight low is 36*

I dare say with the sun out it climbs into the very low 50s. Its already 41. Measurable sunlight until around 4:45.

There shouldn't be any reason to cancel anything tomorrow.

Went to Whole Foods on Lemmon yesterday after work and the meat selection was minimal. Entire butcher counter was empty and they had some of the prepackaged chicken / beef available but not a lot.

Rest of the store seemed pretty well stocked.

Guessing the trucks will be able to get in today to resupply everyone

I'm concerned the districts will cancel again tomorrow. The neighborhood streets are still a mess in far north dallas. They have cancelled for less in the past. Really hope I am wrong!

There's also a groupthink aspect to it. If some districts cancel, I feel like others are more likely to join in.

left the house for doctors appointment today - DNT in frisco was clean and clear. Getting around prosper though was still pretty dicey in places. Also about 50% of the cars were still dumbasses driving like its 80 degrees outside and dry roads.

I suspect things will be in good enough shape by sundown

Currently 44 out west with low tonight forecast 34. Lots of melting happening. What's melted will not refreeze, but we need lots of runoff to take place to melt the stuff to the ground.

Just went outside for the first time in 24 hours. Lots melting, gutters sound like a rainstorm, and the ground has transitioned from a packed snow cone to a slush. Brookshire's is all out of regular milk and the coffee is picked over. Other than that they're well-stocked. Progress.
