At what point do y'all worry about the pool freezing? I've had my freeze protection running like a charm, but we're still looking at 48+ hours of below freezing temps. My water temp is 47F but just curious if/when ice becomes a concern.

This is my first major winter storm with our pool. Thanks

It'll be fine, as long as you have power. Your pool has a ton of thermal mass and it isn't THAT cold.

The Colony: walking the dog this morning on an inch or snow kind of crunchy so we just took it slow but no issues. A few people were driving around in AWDs that weren't having issues on the neighborhood streets. I thought about taking a drive just for the hell of it but since I don't NEED to go anywhere I decided against it.

Busted my ass going out the back door to start my vehicle and let the battery charge some but the door handles are so frozen that I can't open them.

I opened the front door and my dog immediately said nope.

My dog regularly mentions that his contract clearly states that he gets walkies every morning by 7:30 and a bonus walkie on Saturday afternoons.

Redneck it and pour some hot water on that door. It's the south, man. Play into your ignorance of cold weather!

We got probably a quarter to half inch of sleet snow here. Very light snow flurries right now. So far we didn't get as much accumulation as predicted which I'm happy about.

West Plano, .75 to 1" sleet. If it snowed at all I didn't see it. Sun's out now

Any up to date intel on flights landing at DFW? Trying to see if my flight arriving at 7 pm is likely to be canceled.

I'm in Houston but my wife texted me that we have no power in West Plano (Preston & Parker). It has been out since 4 am.

ERCOT currently running at 23 MW excess capacity and minimal localized power outages statewide. Hopefully all the critics of our independent grid will remember this…doubtful.

I do not see any planes currently flying into Dfw from the north

That's because everything is landing from the south due to winds (incoming flights from the north swing around and land into the wind). That said, traffic appears to be about 10% or less of normal.

Makes sense, I just stepped out on our front porch and took a look. I'm right along the flight path north of DFW.

My Beagles went hell yeah, it's a party! It was a shorter than usual party, but they romped.

The board at Love has a lot of canceled but I'm still good so far. Was a little rough getting out here. Lots of road crews out but besides the plows didn't see a lot of sand or brine going out.

Agree. I had power all of 2021 and ran the pool. That was longer at these temps and it was fine. Did get a little surface ice in the stagnant areas. But overall it was fine.

I think we are going to be fine as well but the coldest air is still to come.

Good for ERCOT for doing the job they're supposed to do. People have plenty of legitimate reasons to be leery after '21.

Just giving credit where it's due. A large swath of the state received sleet, ice and bitter cold.

Your concern is not your main pool water freezing. Your concern is the water in your pump, filter, skimmer freezing/expanding. As long as your pump is running, that won't happen. As long as your pump is running, your main pool water won't freeze.

Pretty consistent snow flurries in lake highlands. Almost feels like lake effect snow.

They haven't really fixed any of the problems. This storm just isn't nearly as bad as that one was.

Going to take some really big structural changes to the way Texas manages energy to really fix things. Also decent chance that we won't get another storm that bad for another 50 years so maybe we'll get lucky.
