In my experience, most daycares / preschools defer to the local school district when it comes to weather related closures.

Correct.

Funny enough ours opened from 11-4:30 today even though Denton is closed again. Not sure what the point of that is, but I imagine she's been catching some strays.

Ya most do, but the Primrose off Lookout (less than 2 miles away) is open today despite Richardson/Plano ISDs being closed. They're a private business and don't have to follow district closures.

Yes, This is the first time I recall our day care (3rd one across 3 kids) being open when Rockwall is closed. I guess day 4 is the line.

Our Primrose opened but they just let us know no more kids can get checked in today due to student/kid ratio. I imagine many of the workers are still struggling to make it in (Aubrey, Celina, etc.).

Toddler needed to go today - he was driving everyone made after 5 days at home.

Thats some bs. Should be a prorated auto return.

Cost of daycare is insane and one of my biggest concerns when it comes to having a kid in the future.

Thats pretty standard across all daycares.

Plus if the daycare is any good, there is a long list of families happy to take your spot if this is a deal breaker for you.

PSA- cheap water softener rock salt for ice is the way to go if you're not trying the water heater method. Got the driveway cleared so we're not sliding backwards into the neighbors welding truck. The big pellets continue to work even after an initial shovel.

Any impact on the surrounding grass when it runs off? Curious if that's an issue bc I really want to try this next time but don't want to accidentally nuke my lawn.

I guess we'll find out. Although after the last couple of summers I wouldn't mind nuking some of my grass.

But I've just shoveled it all straight down the driveway to the street so I doubt there's much impact. Except maybe it will refreeze tonight (27) and slow down the *******s at the back of the neighborhood.

Next is the concrete strip on the N/S of the house that never gets direct sun ever. And there's an 18" strip of grass between there and the fence that I would love to kill.

Almost all the ice that received any sunlight has completely melted and dried it seems. I imagine there will be very little left by tomorrow morning, so hopefully other ISDs follow suit.

Our street was completely covered in ice this morning.

Nearly completely melted as of now.

Will touch freezing tonight but the breeze is doing a lot to dry the melt.

Hearing rumors that the Ponder HS senior that was injured in a sledding accident didn't make it. Hopefully this is just bad info. Just terrible and very close to home.

Out today from late morning to mid-afternoon. DFW airport area to McKinney and back. No road issues. Still some standing water in some lanes -- mostly left next to some slush up against walls -- that I can't figure out how/why it hadn't dried yet.

The only real surprise I had today was I stopped at a place in McKinney for lunch. Almost busted my ass on the sidewalk in FRONT of the restaurant, not 20 feet from the door! No rock salt, no sand, no nothing. Other than why some flunkie didn't get out there with a push broom and get that crap off, I still can't wrap my head around why there was actual slick ICE -- not just slush -- after 2 days of 50+ degree weather and no freezing. I mean, I get the slush with the shade and all, but still perplexed by the ice, even small amounts.

I guess the 3-ish days below freezing cooled the ground off significantly. Wasn't 2021 in late February?

Same. Every day this week I look at the empty mailbox and think of George yelling that at Newman.

I dropped by my po box (FW- 8th ave)Monday and of course no mail and the sales counter was closed but I could hear music playing in the back. I talked to our mail man Tuesday and he said they hadn't had a delivery truck since Saturday and no clerks have shown up to fill the po boxes and work the counter. Finally got mail Wednesday. Been waiting on a customers check that was mailed (via Frost automated payments) on 1/16

Will be totally fine. I've driven all over Sulphur Springs the past two days and drove to Tyler and back. There is literally nothing on the roads. The fact that school was cancelled yesterday was laughable.

Unless you are driving out of shaded backwoods roads there will no issue.

The street on front of my house is in a low point and gets zero sun during the day. It reminded me of a high school physics problem with a frictionless surface.

Probably the last spot like that in Plano, but all the school moms threw a fit and made school start late again

The zero sun shady spots are crazy icy still. Taken this morning in our driveway.
