Me too. Their treatment of him has been criminal. Just trying to freeze him out because they don't want to pay him what they agreed to pay him. Very sad because he could really help this team.

No one will ever convince me that Pablo ****ing Mari has the potential to help Arsenal more than Mesut Ozil.

I could see Pablo Mari being our starting LCB once he's back from injury alongside Gabriel.

This is the message Ozil posted:

Quote:

This is a difficult message to write to the @Arsenal fans that I've played for over the past few years. I'm really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the @premierleague season for the time being. Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated. As I have just found out, loyalty is hard to come by nowadays. I've always tried to remain positive from week to week that there's maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That's why I kept silent so far. Before the Coronavirus break I was really happy with the development under our new coach Mikel Arteta - we've been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level.

But then things changed, again, and I was not longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What else can I say? London still feels like home, I still have many good friends in this team, and I still feel a strong connection with the fans of this club. No matter what, I will keep fighting for my chance and not let my 8th season at Arsenal end like this. I can promise you that this hard decision won't change anything in my mindset - I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice.

Hate that this is ending like this, but he's never playing for us again. Dude was a big part of bringing multiple FA Cups to the club and ending a trophy drought. We probably win the league in 2015 if Giroud finished just half the chances Ozil created that spring. Its incredibly frustrating to see how much we struggle in creating chances when we still are paying Ozil. I know he doesn't quite fit the tactics in terms of high press and work rate, but I thought he was looking decent in Arteta's teams back in January.

That said, he can't act like this comes as a shock. Everyone knew that he and Sokratis were gonna be the two players left off the roster when the time came. That's why we worked so feverishly to move them both out of the club.

I read somewhere recently that they are just trying not to play him so they can at least save money on the appearance based payments.

Arsene Wenger called it a "waste" for everyone involved. I agree completely. And he's pointed out what you just said Wangus, that Arsenal struggles to create chances yet won't play the team's best creator.

Has anyone on the team expressed frustration with him not playing?

Other than people liking his instagram post, nobody has said anything. And I do believe part of the reason he isn't playing is because of his contract incentives that get that salary up to the 350k/wk. That's definitely not the base pay, much like Auba's big contract has incentives that get him to that big payday (who hasn't scored since signing his big contract).

There has to be frustration in the older members on the team with Ozil, but it also stands that in 18 premier league games last year, he had 2 assists and that is with Auba and Laca up front. That's not really good enough output for a player who for all the magic going forward, could be a defensive liability due to lack of running.

I'll be curious to see how much comes out when he leaves next summer.

He very rarely played with both Auba and Laca at the same time.

I think you'd agree that 2 assists in 18 games is not nearly enough even given that fact.

I would indeed. I think he's just the type of player who is at his best with great players around him. He's never really had that at arsenal like he did at Madrid or for Germany.

I always thought Mesut did a lot in those games that linked the field even when he wasn't the one credited with the assist. He did quite a damn bit being two passes away from the goal with the creative passes to the wingers.

Seems that we've criticized basically every midfielder who has come through Arsenal over the past decade for not grabbing enough assists, for various reasons. Only 4 players last year had more than 2 assists. Pepe (6), Saka (5), Laca (4), and Auba (3).

I don't know, it just seems like we were playing really well with Ozil on the field every game, then the pandemic hit, Arsenal freaked out about money, and suddenly Ozil doesn't even belong on the bench.

(And on the above, certainly most players are better with great players around them.)

Wasn't it basically established Ozil had no problem covering distance, at least during our run to start 2020?

Like, I don't have all the stats in front of me and happy to be corrected, but I seem to remember seeing a lot of this:

It absolutely was. I thought he'd turned the corner. He was tracking back and helping out, although people started pointing out that he was then so far removed from the front of the attack that we'd fail to create. I still don't understand why he didn't play after the restart. Rumors bout being the one of the few players that didn't want to take a pay cut etc.

This ref is determined to send an Arsenal player off tonight. Two joke yellow cards in two minutes

Team looked very disjointed in the first half. Maybe today's formation and/or maybe having guys like Soares and Kola playing along with Laca and Eddie together

You cannot convince me that we are one of the worst attacking sides from a talent perspective in Europe and can only create one chance against a team in Austria in 45 minutes. I think Arteta has done a very good job in creating a solid backline and Partey looks the real deal in the middle. He has to start developing some form of attack because it is so anemic right now that Ronaldo and Messi combined couldn't score with this delivery.

Nice to see Partey. Physical match making fluidity difficult.

Glad to have 3 points and that was probably the toughest match of the group stage, but we have some serious attacking issues and Leno seems to have the yips playing out of the back.

Nice to get the win! Subbing in Auba and Bellerin saved the match.

Good to see the team wake up after falling behind and actually look like they could score multiple goals. Now to clean up stuff like Laca not passing to Auba when there was a chance for 3-1

As long as we come to play next week we should feel good about starting with 6 points in the group (definitely time for Runarsson's debut though)
