On the brightside, coming back and winning a garbage match would be a very expected Arsenal Jekyll and Hyde thing to do

Hopefully somewhere Arsene Wenger is poking a West Ham voodoo doll...we could use some of that old Wenger comeback magic

Now we're playing halfway decent; play direct through the middle half and then swing something into the box...

Arsenal have largely bossed the last 25 or so minutes of game time...there are more goals to be had in this match. Playing quick through the middle third is working, doesn't seem like West Ham has the legs to get back quick enough. But need to get the second goal before they hunker down completely

Moyes throwing a bit of a tantrum...maybe Wenger just poked the doll

Some good fortune!

Seriously, when every pass is moving downfield and therefore are cutting out he lateral passing, West Ham is getting caught in bad positions nearly every time. Keep it going!

Crazy match. I'll take a point after being down three nil. Abysmal beginning but credit to the boys for fighting back.

Very disappointing start but will take the draw; team looked really good the last 55-60 minutes of the match

Self-inflicted first half shenanigans. Proud of them for fighting back, what an exciting second half.

Silver lining...last week we absolutely looked the better side, once we switched on today we absolutely looked the better side. We are getting there. Odegaard is something else.

Mid-table club again performs like...a mid-table club. Can play really well and truly horribly all in the same match. Know this club is capable of finishing higher than 10th, but not looking like they will, want to, or are coached to. This season has been to date a regression, and Arteta holds the keys.

Didn't we do this last year against the Hammers?

Supposedly Laca interviewed after the game stating that some fo the guys didn't respect/follow Arteta's game plan to start the match and Arteta corroborated in his interview.. I really want to know who and if it was a vet player, I want them off the team asap.

Yeah if that's a true assertion, then that person needs to be gone. I don't care who it was.

Also, I'm totally fine spending everything we have on Odegaard at this point

To create such a collapse, i think it had to be Mari, Luiz, Xhaka, Partey or some combination. Dont see how outside guys could have sheet on the game plan that badly and Laca is the one spilling the beans.

Chambers looked really good today. I think he's too slow for RB but I'd give him a start in the middle ahead of Xhaka

Pretty sure he was Fulham's POTY as a CDM a few years ago

Yep. Not sure i like him as a CM/DM in our current 4-2-3-1 but i think he could be interesting as a #6 in a 4-3-3.

Unless I missed a follow up, Lacazette said "we didn't respect the game plan from the coach" and said something about the pressure of the game got to the team at the start.

It seems to me like a "we didn't execute the game plan" type comment that you hear somewhat often across sports. And I don't think he was necessarily trying to say a player or multiple players straight up committed sabotage or purposefully undermined anything.

And when Arteta was asked about it, he said "the way we gave up the second and third goals was unacceptable." Scathing, and not good, but I get the sense that maybe Lacazette is saying he thought guys got sucked into what West Ham was doing. Not good, but something that happens and again not a player straight up telling Arteta to **** off.

That is the way I took it as well, just saying that Arteta gave them a gameplan and they didn't carry it out correctly.

Fully understand that I am little back & forth on my transfer desires for the summer, but given our offensive play this season I am starting to feel like we should try and sell PEA this summer and either hang on to Laca a bit longer or sell them both and go younger at ST. My reasoning...

1. Laca's hold up play as been huge with some of the young guys and I feel we may be better off sticking with a ST capable of hold up play going forward.
2. PEA has no holdup play
3. PEA tends to drift wide when asked to play ST which leaves a hole in the middle of the penalty box that no one is filling.
4. I think we generally play better when we have more active AM/W types playing outside (wing) vs PEA
5. PEA's finishing has been awful.

This is not mean to be a confrontational post, so please keep that in mind.

How much does soccer suffer from a recency bias? This is a little hyperbolic but it seems to me that every game is used to decide that a player should be sold, played, or signed based on that one game. I know that most of you guys aren't at that end of the spectrum but we were loving Arteta after winning the FA Cup but then we were willing to fire his ass after the horrific start to the season.

I'm doing a terrible job of articulating what I mean.

It definitely plays into things.

RE Arteta... I really want him to do well. Like him as a person and feel he really knows his stuff. I just really question some of his selection & man management decisions. And while I am perfectly happy for him to stay, it wasn't gonna hurt my feelings terribly if Barca came calling. Assuming we actually hired a decent replacement.

RE PEA... Like many other players, when they are producing you forget about their quirks and/or flaws. Well PEA has had a very bad season. His poor finishing was there last season but his confidence helped bail him out and you quickly forget the ones he missed when he is scoring 30+. When he has barely scored 10, every single miss is remembered, discussed & scrutinized. My concern, is that his preferred style of play does not fit the current style that has gotten the team results and these clashing of styles will ultimately cost us games.

Thanks and I think I agree. It just seems that soccer is more likely to fire a coach quickly as opposed to other sports.

Lastly, Xhaka has played the most minutes out of any field players on the team this year? At some point he's got to be breaking down, right? I know that he's frustrating but I think Arteta has made his job easier than what he was asked to do in the past.
