Once you jump to shoot the ball you cannot then start to dribble. It is a traveling violation and a turnover.

I'm confused. He hadn't used his dribble when he jumped. He could have maintained a dribble.

Can't jump to start a dribble. Automatic travel. You've removed your pivot foot while holding the ball. Impressed in the heat of the moment he realized that.

Houston really Houston-ed that up. They never win in these championship games. They need a culture change.

Hah, what? Hasn't it been over 40 years since they last lost a title game? Wish we had that culture of 7 final fours.

I think Duke rattled them so thoroughly, they were not set up to play great.

It happens. Mental endurance is a thing.

What's interesting there is I think Sharp could have dribbled it.
Sure seems like it. He had not dribbled before leaving his feet, so he should've been able to pick up the dribble.

Not an expert so could very well be wrong. But don't think it matters that he never dribbled before. Since he jumped it's like a shot. He can't be the first to touch it since it was an air ball.

This is correct. Since both feet left the ground, he has to shot or pass. It doesn't matter that he hasn't dribbled yet.

The refs might have called a travel because it would have looked strange but he still needed to go ahead and try it.
Trying something would've been better than that result.

Last play was the story of the game. UF ball pressure on UH guards was just enough to win.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Why didn't he go up w the shot?

He had the defender in the air... that's 3 free throws guaranteed

T&P to the coeds at UF. Golden gonna be sending some new messages with hardware in hand.

The messages will have to be voice narrated. He'll have one hand on a trophy, and the other hand… busy.

Easy to say now, but it would have smarter to grab the ball and take the turnover and hope to steal the inbound or they miss a FT.

They would not have called a foul there. It probably would have been blocked.

Does Sampson hang it up after this year? I feel like he'd give it one more shot next year, but you never know.

I'm pretty sure they lost to the eventual champion every time they've been to the Final Four. They lost to UNC (Micheal Jordan) in 82 and UCLA in 67.

Well get ready, army, because if the Aggies ever make an NCAA tournament final, this is exactly how it will play out…

This is the most TexAgs post of all time. They should go ahead shut it down now.

I suppose starting a dribble with a jump is illegal, but in practice, especially in the NBA, this seems to never be called. I feel like I've seen multiple clips of Curry leaving the ground for a jumper, releasing the ball before coming back down, and continuing a dribble.

42 years ago Houston lost at the buzzer to the weakest national title winner of all time. 1983 NC State Wolfpack entered the NCAA tournament with a 20-10 record and an 8 seed. No way in hell Houston should have lost that game.

Their last two losses in the National Titles games were to respectable opponents in Georgetown and Florida.

Well, traveling is legal in the NBA, especially for superstars...

Obvious proof of either some sort of karmic curse or, more likely, institutional fan deficiency that manifests in these losses. What other explanation could there be?

Congratulations to Florida for rallying from a 42-30 deficit with 16:24 left to defeat Houston 65-63 in the Men's Basketball National Championship Game to win their 3rd national championship and 1st since 2007. Florida pulled off the third-largest comeback (12 points) in national championship history, tied with Kentucky in 1998. Also, Todd Golden comes the second-youngest coach to win a national title in NCAA history at 39 years and 9 months old.

In my bracket, I had busts in every round before the Elite 8, but I correctly predicted Florida would defeat Houston in the Championship Game. This is the second straight year I correctly predicted both the March Madness winner and the runner-up, and the first time that I correctly predicted the Final Four teams.

There are certain teams and certain schools that always tend to rise up in the moment...and there are certain teams that always fold.

Houston has by far the strongest basketball tradition out of any school in the state, but its UTEP and Baylor that have the National Title Trophies in Mens basketball.

Houston and Tech have each lost heartbreaking National Title games that would have changed the trajectory of their schools and athletic departments....... and each of them choked.

Baylor is in the same category of athletic department as Tech and Houston. The only difference is they've won the last 4 National Champion Games their mens and womens basketball teams have played in. People under 30 don't remember Baylor being horrible at sports.

I really thought Houston was going to pull it off tonight.
