Okay... I guess this thread is half pre-watch discussion and half post watch. Being only 2 long episodes, how long are we spoiler tagging discussion?
I thought this season was very good, though still certain things bothered me here and there. Even though I really like the show and the season, I will not be a hypocrite and will call out the power-up moments in this show like I do in any other medium. Very weak explanation for the power-ups, in my opinion. If our hero is damn near beat, and you want them to rally to win a fight, I just wish the writers did a better job with earning it. I get how they are trying to explain the power up moment, but it just didn't do it for me.
One of my other critiques was the resurrection trope with Max. She's in a coma, so they don't get a complete awful fail from me, but I think they copped out with not letting her die. When she had her death moment, my jaw was literally hanging open. I couldn't believe they went there, and was about to come on this forum to give my kudos to the writers for really upping the stakes.
I will also second all the scenes with Will struggling with seemingly being in love with Mike. We get it... how many times do I need to see him cry about it? However, something in me thought about what if he's actually in love with Eleven, and the writers totally tricked us. Every scene I have seen where they give those clues, I think you can also twist it that way. That wouldn't be championing the gay representation in Hollywood, so I doubt that's the case, but would be a great little twist.
I would say just about everything else about the season is a positive. I still believe the best characters in this show are Steve and Robin. Great relationship between the two, and just really like anytime we get back to their points of view. I definitely didn't expect us to get the ending we did, so appreciated that subversion of expectations.
Edit: Also, that remix of Separate Ways is still freaking epic. And Master of Puppets is always epic. That was truly metal.
