Surprised I didn't post about this when it happened...

I was doing some consulting work in New Mexico last summer. I showed up on Tuesday to the county courthouse that I'd been to once before. I drove there from memory and parked, but something was off... Everything looked familiar, but I was like...am I misremembering?

Apparently Stranger things had shot there that weekend through Monday. And the signage and stuff was still up. Staff was asked to stay home on Monday and I was like "Yo...y'all should have given me a heads up! I would've come and gawked." The back parking lot had a bunch of period cars still on site as well.

They'd converted the county courthouse into a municipal building and transformed some of the other buildings around the square and around town, covering their signs with faux signs from the show. They'd also filmed at the high school and at a burger place they transformed to a pizza place.

I'd seen filming done a couple times before for other (less interesting) projects around the state, where they'd taken over a restaurant or a bar, but it was the first time I'd seen them transform a few blocks of town. I've seen them cover signage before with their own created signs, but it was interesting to see the little touches they did. They replaced all the doorknobs in the courthouse for instance.

I went around and took some pictures during a break later that morning, but they'd already begun tearing things down. Potential spoilers...

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the courthouse is used.

I wonder where they get all of those old cars. Do they truck all of them in from California?

If I'm netflix, I surprisingly put this out a few hours early.

I'm pumped. I should be getting out of school early tomorrow, then I can cozy up in the man cave with some beverages to watch this, while it's storming all day/night.

Watched the first episode at 4 am and couldn't believe the disclaimer already on there:

Quote:

We filmed this season of Stranger Things a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing. We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one.

One of the stranger things I've ever seen, especially considering there isn't even a single gun in the opening scene. Are fictional shows just going to start putting a disclaimer on everything tied to the most current event now?

What the disclaimer should have read was "We realize we should have ended this show after the third season but grab your popcorn anyway and please enjoy our cash grab".

Watched the 7 episodes released last night. I'm not digging this season at all. Feels like it's time to wrap this series up.

Isn't this supposed to be the last season?

How do you burn through 7 episodes in one night of a show that you find pretty meh.

Not that difficult. I watched a couple of episodes, caught some sleep, and then watched the rest while eating breakfast and doing some work from home.

I really liked seasons 1-3, so I kept hoping it was going to get better. It wasn't terrible, but it feels disjointed with the number of separate story lines happening.

my brother's father in law had a really cool old 50s truck in perfect condition. The producers of a movie called breast men that had ross gellar in it paid him to use it.

Damn, that was certainly a rough opening after very recent events. Made sense why they put that disclaimer up right before. Just based on the first episode, this season looks like it's going to be WAY darker.

That first episode ending was straight out of a horror movie. Sheesh.

We really liked it. Yeah, it's somewhat different than the first 3 seasons, but a fourth season of the exact same thing would've been boring.

Yup. We finished it today, much more involved. Although my wife said they're inching the plot along slooowly.

Just finished it with the wife. We loved it. Yes, it was different but it needed to be different. It was getting stale. The ending was great and actually answered a lot of questions that we had going back to season 1. Can't wait for July!

This is not something you do casually, burning through 8 hours of tv without committing.

Definitely feels like this is the Nightmare on Elm Street season.

Dug the first episode, good to catch up with all the characters, but admittedly it did feel a little long to me and a tad overstuffed. Hoping that's not the case for the rest of the episodes.

I like it (the season.. not just episode 1). And I'm usually critical of stuff. Especially shows with supernatural crap.

Just watched episode 1. Did not enjoy that at all. Was much more horror and demon-y than just sci-fi.

May not finish if episode 2 is similar.

We may not finish either. We waited till our kids were teenagers to watch and binged them all this last year. They had 0 problems with 1-3, but want to bow out after episode 1. That was an entirely different type of horror.

This isn't me being an overprotective parent. They both said they didn't like that and don't want to continue.

I think most certainly he is. But in the grand scheme of bad things in this show, he's probably middle rung
