i think you're right and assuming that's the case, i'm just not sure i understand why they also made Robin's character gay. i thinks she's also mostly closeted too, right? but Steve has been pretty cool and supportive.

from an audience perspective, it just seems that decision with Robin sort of cuts against what it appears they're trying to show with Will.

From my view, the point of Robin being lesbian is so we don't have to worry about her and Steve. It basically gives them freedom to be friends without things becoming misunderstood by the audience.

Edit: It also gives Steve a lot of depth. He bucks the mold of what you would expect for someone of his reputation, and you see how he has a really big heart for others.

Totally agree with this. Heck Steve's character development is the best by far of any person on the show, and pretty much why I watch. Mike, Will, and El could die and I not care because since they don't have true interaction with Steve they are basically side "story" characters to me. Hell maybe Steve goes back in time and is El's father.

Well, Lonnie and those kids are also *******s.... So what is the point in Will being gay? Maybe this will tie into something else, but as of now I don't see what the purpose is. He's already tortured by the Upside Down, why dump another struggle on him? He probably has a few secrets. Poor kid. I guess the writers always do things for a reason, so we'll have to see.

Maybe my issue is I don't care if he is or not and so many people are caught up in that. I'm interested in his connection to the Upside Down.

I wouldn't be a fan of Will being gay. This show doesn't take place in 2022 and being a child of the 80s, I know exactly how his friends would realistically react, and it's not how it would likely be in the show. The 80s were not kind to gay people, especially gay males, even more especially to gay males in small town Indiana.

I was going to make a joke repurposing the line from independence day about the aliens doing sexual things to Russell, but I felt uncomfortable given Will's age when he disappeared (or even his age now). So, now I am posting it as a non-joke but still laughing just hearing the line in my head. "When Vecna took Will, he did things to him... sexual things"

Yeah, but then you're in the tricky spot of his otherwise lovable friends being labeled homophobes or whatever (by Twitter, the woke, etc), and opening that whole can of worms. I don't know how you approach it, to be honest.

Either way, Doja Cat might actually kill Noah Schnapp before they even start filming, so all of this could be rendered moot...



(She DMed Schnapp to ask him to tell the actor who played Billy to hit her up - she has/had a crush on him - and then Schnapp jokingly/publicly posted screenshots of her asking, without her consent, and she got pissed.)
