so the kid was truly the first of his kind - killed his family, and I guess he was in a coma after the episode? the then gets picked up by Brenner and becomes One? Later - he then gets 11 to remove the chip from his neck, kills all the kids, and 11 bounces him to the upside down. How did he turn into Vecna? There's still quite a bit unanswered, but luckily we have another 2 extra-long episodes to go.
My question is how did One gain his powers in the first place? The whole show we've been led to believe the powers were caused by the experiments being done in Hawkins Lab, not that they were simply recreating existing powers. And the other weird thing is that 8's powers were completely different from all the other kids we see, so why was that?
What he did for those five years probably won't be shown I don't think, but maybe.
The bigger question to me is how he relates to the Mind Flayer, if he's really the "five-star general" to the Mind Flayer, or if it was the other way around.
Also what his motivation for his targets is. Why teens, and why go after trauma. I'm guessing it allows for a stronger psychic bond somehow.

I know this season is not technically over but it was my favorite so far. Outstanding.
I think the production did a very good job in downplaying certain characters who's shelf lifes have essentially expired and playing up those characters who have evolved to the ones the fans really want to see lead this thing through to a great ending. Very on point with the audience.

My pet theory is that Vecna is the mind flayer. The mind flayer was just a different form because he was trying to establish himself or his body within the upside down.
Notice how the place he's banished doesn't look like the upside down. It's red and has lots of lightning. That's what his mind looks like when Max and Nancy are in there, but it's also what the mind flayer was always surrounded by.
Also, the upside down might be an extension or compartment of Eleven's mind created while she was remote viewing. That's why it's stuck in 1983. I think touching the demogorgon maybe unplugged her from it in the wrong way, so it got stuck as something like a memory. When One told Eleven that the others weren't gone because they were still in his mind, he may have been being literal. Maybe he was in Eleven's mind and kind of got out into the upside down. Now he's trying to establish gates as part of some scheme to break out. Either he's been trying to reform and escape since 1979 or 1983.
The tendrils are also a question. I think it was Steve or Nancy who told Eddie to avoid the tendrils because they were all sort of connected. Those might be Eleven's mind. Vecna might be tapping into Eleven's powers through them in order to project outside the upside down.
Or, alternatively, the upside down is both a place and a thing and the ultimate bad guy. It is where Eleven sent One, but it is also another dimension trying to find its way to ours to absorb it in some way.
That would be dope if Eleven created the upside down.

Thats a good one! Mine would be verves bittersweet symphony. That song always takes me away from whatever I happen to be dealing with. Not necessarily my fave song, although i do love it, but its by far the most mood altering.

Of course I paused the scene in episode 6 to look at Suzie's 1986 computer. It's a Commodore Amiga 1000 which was released in 1985, so that was accurate.

In season 3, we see bodies become possessed and then explode and congregate to the mind flayer, making him stronger and bigger with each death. I think the mind flayer is the personification of Vecna after he went to the upside down and how he gains strength on earth. Hawkins was just ground 0 for all of that but he has ports and gates in other areas clearly. Also I don't think the tentacles are El. Think about season 3 when they would burn the tentacles and Will would be hurt and burned. Never happened to El. I would think if El was connected to that; she would have been affected.

Comment one -didn't Vecna say to Nancy that he killed Barb... so that would mean he was there in Season 1.... right?

I honestly don't even remember how he died, if he even did. I'd just been assuming he was.
That couldn't be right because that happened in 1979 and it's stuck in 1983, when Will disappeared.
