I can still remember watching this footage after high school when it happened in 1982. And I distinctly remember the man that handed over the rope the helicopter was sending down to a woman and then he drowned.

Also, the woman that appeared to try to be swimming, but she had jet fuel in her eyes and couldn't see.

More precisely, it looks like it crosses it path from right angles in clueless fashion and may have been rammed by the jet and then you see the explosion. You may be right, but to time to hit the jet is much narrower than fouling its path would be and that's my impression.

As an airline pilot all I will add is T&P and I hope it was quick for those on board. I've listened to too many CVR recordings and hence why I hope this was quick for all the unfortunate individuals involved

Well, that's true. It's really hard to tell. I wonder if If the pilot of the helicopter or even the plane had a medical event.

Flight path is directly on ILS for runway 1.

Edit: Could have also been intending for 33 rnav. Has an approach very close to the ILS 1 cone. Interesting approach.

I amend my previous guess. Gotta find the ATC audio.

I can not phantom why a helicopter would circling in the approach path of a runway at an altitude that conflicts with planes in short final.
