Good question. My understanding is they are still called `tweets' and X is the name of platform just as his space corps is Space X. Its a signet with him. This is a big deal to us, but I'm not sure it moves the needle for the President quite as much. I imagine him seeing it on X, sending a few texts for details, maybe making a call or two, and then tweeting right before he falls asleep.
P.S. Can I still say tweeting? Should it be X-ing?
remember this...annie88 said:Don't know if it's true, but some reports saying that many of the passengers were still strapped in their seats underwater, which wouldn't be surprising. But take that with a grain of salt. Because we don't know.FTAG 2000 said:
Per NBC 4 Washington: both crash sites located.
Wrecks are closer to Anacostia-Bolling side of the Potomac. CRJ is "split in 2" in about 7 feet of water. The helicopter is bobbing upside down, varying between submerged and not. Divers are in the water and searching.
Water temp is 35 degrees. Roughly 25 minutes too before anyone alive in the water would die from hypothermia. They aren't pulling anyone out of the river alive at this point.
Just a horrible, horrible thing. And the night time is making it so much harder to deal with.
Many of the people on Titanic survived the sinking but the water got them. So the cold water absolutely making this even more tragic, if that's possible.

The crash supposedly occurred at 400'.
ETA: crash at 400' MSL clearly puts UH60 PIC in error. I'm still surprised Tower wasn't more urgent and earlier in his attempted intervention. I do realize he was somewhat busy.

Preliminary analysis of the crash of flight 5342 today suggests a possible factor might have been the helicopter pilot accidentally looking at AAL3130, a larger plane landing behind 5342, on a different approach but visually close and possibly brighter than the closer, smaller… pic.twitter.com/3jH10LathV

Is that where the inexperience and lack of training might explain as well as any deliberate act?Catag94 said:FWAppraiser said:

If these altitudes are accurate, the Army UH60 at this altitude is a problem. Thanks to ETFan posting the helicopter route chart above, we now know the UH60 is required to be at or below 100' MSL in this area along route 4 which is to follow the east bank of the river. So, the right hand turn and apparent climb is also suspect. I'm not suggesting it was intensional, just quite irresponsible given the route details.
Would be wild if the banking as an evasive maneuver ended up actually causing the collision.FTAG 2000 said:Nothing suspicious. The sparks on underside were chopper blades hitting fuselage underside.
Sorry, I missed that post.annie88 said:
I actually posted that exact video on the first or second page of this thread. I absolutely remember that coming home from high school and watching that and as I said earlier, remember the guy who pushed the rope over so they could save a lady and he ended up drowning. That one happened the daytime so they could see better. This one being at night is making it even worse. It's still amazing that anybody survived that.
Wife sent me this, she's a big figure skating fan and is following the news.MarkTwain said:

Not my area but per a.net discussion apparently TCAS (traffic collision avoidance) is 'suppressed' below a certain altitude (maybe 200 feet for helo's and 1000 for fixed wing aircraft?). Joint Base Andrew's (where the 89th military airlift/marine 1 unit bases their stuff out of locally) is only a few miles from Reagan Nat'l. Theory is presently I guess that the Blackhawk pilot visually spotted a larger aircraft landing further from him, but missed the CRJ.FriscoKid said:This.TxAG#2011 said:

The helicopter looks to have been following Route 1 to Route 4. The altitude restrictions along these two routes from the Memorial Bridge to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge is 200 feet and below and hugging the east side of the Potomac.
I've flown this Route a few times, once at night, probably 20 years ago and we were always down around 100-150 feet. I'd guess the helo was higher than it was supposed to be, and also was looking at the wrong aircraft when they told ATC they had traffic in sight.

ATC = Air Traffic Control
CRJ-700 = the airline jet involved (stands for Canadair Regional Jet, although now own by Bombardier)
PSA = haven't seen this yet, but the jet was operated by PSA on behalf of American Airlines under their American Eagle brand.
DCA = one of the three airports in the Washington DC area. Today it is called Reagan National Airport, and if you ever call it Reagan around someone who lived there before the name changed they will immediately reply "oh you mean National?"
VMC = minimum control speed
Class B = this isn't an acronym but refers to Class B airspace, which exists around most large airports in the USA.
