Seeing commentary where we give up a 5th to trade up in Round 2 to grab Luther Burden. Also seeing commentary where we trade up in the 3rd and take RJ Harvey, UCF RB (led the Big 12 in rushing last year). I guess the latter could depend on any Breece Hall noise coming to fruition.

I like it and I thinks that's why we don't see anything done with Breece Hall until after today. RJ Harvey is a STUD... the only real knock on him is that he's 24 already. But as a 3rd round pick I have no problem using and abusing him for 4 years and then that's it.

But if we don't go for a RB today I'm all for getting Breece and using some of our free'd up cap space to sign him to a reasonable extension. If they would rather go BPA in day 2 (I've got my eye on that UCLA LB) that's fine, but we better find somebody we can plug in at RB1.

Quick comment about Day 2... if you've been listening to podcasts, the Cowboys plans became clear in recent days. Bookers name popped up out of nowhere and we should have known.

The other thing that's come out recently is that Coach Schotty stood on the table and had only 1 demand regarding the draft... only take high character players. That doesn't mean guys that go to church every Sunday, it's a reference to high football IQ, guys that LOVE the game and love/lead their teammates.

I don't have all the details of the day 2 guys, but I'd be shocked if Henderson isn't high on their board because I hear nothing but good things about that guy.

I really want Henderson. Will need to move up a bit from 44 to get ahead of teams like the bears and raiders who all need RB. Browns do too though. If he slides past their two early picks, you look to maybe move up with the titans? I just don't want them to touch their 3rd rounder. 5th-7th I'm cool giving up on to get someone like that. Those day 2 picks are just too valuable

Dallas has just never been a move up in the draft type of team. I don't see it happening unfortunately.

Agreed. Which, on some level, I appreciate. It's a numbers game and you need to take multiple swings, bc you are going to miss some of them. I just think Henderson is special and the type of back Dallas needs. I just don't want to mortgage the rest of the draft to get him. But if he escapes the browns , I'd personally consider it.

But here's the BRILLIANCE of our front office. You want to know what the value chart says the going rate is to move up a handful of spots in the 2nd... a 4th round pick! But don't worry, we got Jonathan Mingo instead folks!

Cowboys are going to sit there like a bunch of jack asses and watch other teams trade up and take their guys. We are going to sit there and take somebody nobody is even talking about (Like Kneeland last year)... high fives and hugs will be given... and the Day 2 press conference will go on and on about how this was the 18th ranked player on their board blah blah blah.

Hope I'm wrong... still really excited for Day 2... really excited... but I expect to be let down.

OK, here is a trade example for round 2:

Cleveland has picks 33 and 36 today. From a value standpoint it adds up (with a slight overpay by Dallas) for us to trade 44 for their 36... in return we swap 3rd rounders (we give them 76 and get their 94). Nobody loses picks... we move up 8 spots in the 2nd and they move up 18 spots in the 3rd.

I don't think it will happen, but that's one scenario where the math adds up and we jump in front of Chicago (they have two early 2nd rounders), NO, NJ... all teams that are also looking for skill position players. And where I'm sitting, I don't see the point in taking O-line first round... AGAIN... if we aren't going to give our offense another legit weapon that it desperately needs.

Guys Dallas brought in on visits that are still available that will probably be taken at some point today:

  • Judkins
  • Henderson
  • Burden III (I dont' think this this is happening)
  • Savaiineaea (we just took a guard)
  • Alfred Collins
  • Shavon Revel Jr.
  • Andrew Mukuba

I think there's a real chance it's going to be Revel Jr.

The good news for us in the 2nd round is we are in the sweet spot of this draft and there are a lot of quality players still out there that rate just as high as a lot of the guys taken last night.

I joke and get upset with Dallas for good reason, but the honest truth is there are only 11 picks in front of us today... we will have our choice of several quality players if we sit and wait at 44.

I just hope 2 of the picks ahead of us are used on Sanders & Milroe.

Sounds to me like Dallas is primed to take a back-up C in the 2nd round, foregoing actual needs…

You can never have too many quality OL…

It's a winning strategy…

I agree on Burden... don't think he fits what we've been hearing about "character guys". He brings a little drama I hear. I think Revel is gone... possibly gone even before Will Johnson.

Out of that group, I think Collins, Mukuba & Judkins are the only ones left if we sit and wait at 44. Collins and Makuba are probably guys we'll wait on and do a dance if we can get them in the 3rd. A bit rich at #44, but then again, #12 felt rich for Booker so what do I know.

Kneeland wasn't a 30 visit last year so we aren't limited to this group, but it does give you a good idea.

David Moore said on the ticket this morning that Stephen said there are more than 12 guys on their board that they are comfortable taking at the 12th pick second round, so I doubt we see movement there if that's any indication.

Listining to The Ringer NFL Draft pod guys talk about the Booker pick and one of the guys is a Giants fan and said he was so mad when the Cowboys picked Booker because he's just a good player who will make the Cowboys a good football team. Also mentioned was that Booker was one of the best interviewers in the draft process, according to many teams. They talked about him being a fun guy and his appearance with Micah on the BR show.

Vibes seem to be very high around the pick, and that's usually a good thing (other than false good-QB vibes lol).
jr15aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah, he was a good pick. Possibly a really good pick.

The problem that a lot of people have, including me, is we want to win now. But that probably isn't realistic for next year. We can be an OK team, but probably not a playoff team and very very slim chance we are a contender.

But it is possible that we can be a contender in 2026, but we gotta start semi-rebuilding this team and we start by making sure we hit on every single early pick in this draft and 1 or 2 later picks. So far I think we are 1-for-1 and there are several teams that can't say that right now. There were a lot of guys drafted last night that have real bust potential.
shack009
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Of course we all want to win now. It's still good team-building to draft good players.

It's actually a massive credit to Jerry for making a smart pick rather than taking the shiny toy in Golden like everybody assumed he would.
jr15aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Correct. And for the record, I didn't want Golden either, definite bust potential there.

But if you look at the next 10 picks after Booker: Grant, Warren, Walker, Nolen, Stewart, Zabel, Egbuka, Barron, Harmon, Hampton.

As far as their impact / ability to help the Cowboys specifically, there's really only 2 guys I like as much as Booker... Egbuka & Hampton. And Hampton would have been a big reach at 12 considering there are other backs with equal talent still on the board.

I didn't like Walker as a fit for Dallas. Warren is fun but I think TEs are being overrated this year because of what Bowers did last year. Nolen, Stewart, Zabel, Barron, Harmon... none of them would have contributed the way Booker will and there will be at least 2 busts from that group.

Get that DB from south Carolina.

I went to two USC games last year ( unfortunately one was A&M) and he was outstanding.

You talking about Emanwori (S) I'm guessing.

Yeah, he's likely one of, it not the best prospect still on the board and I don't expect him to last long. A lot of people liked him better than the other safety drafted last night (Starks).

We all sit around talking about RBs, CBs, & WRs because we need them, but this guy would probably be the absolute best pick we could make. I haven't studied him, but sounds like he could be a Darren Woodson type safety that not only brings the hammer, but can come down and cover people out of the slot. Definitely a player we could use.

Guy looks a little slow on tape and then refuses to run a 40. Also heard there is concern about some issues with his hips (injury related)
Only thing that makes any sense is injury concerns. When someone performs like he does in a top conference, that should be all that matters. People overvalue combine testing

He's falling the same reason Travon Diggs did. Will probably make a ton of splash plays but will also give up a lot of yards. Gets beat on double moves pretty often.

taking a skill position guy seems like the obvious choice today, but the cowboys hardly ever operate the way we want them to.

I can see an off the wall pick on the defensive side of the ball

We're the Dallas Cowboys. We don't reach in the draft to fill needs. We also don't overpay free agents to fill needs. Instead, we trade 4th round draft picks for bad players and sign bottom of the barrel free agents to fill needs. It's the Cowboy way

As much as I'd like a WR or RB, if Johnson, Green or Revel are still there that's a hard thing to pass. All three are first round talents on a lot of team boards.

I said last night it was a dumb move…
