I don't buy it either. They end up paying more, and fully guaranteeing future amounts can be used to reduce upfront bonuses. I think their egos and how Jerry has likely done deals most of his business career are the biggest impediment. They like to appear to be negotiating tough guys to these agents and also don't mind some free publicity along the way

They are the tough guy that likes to negotiate a car deal in person and walk out and tell people about how he showed that car salesman who was boss vs joining the 2000s and using the internets to get the best deal much easier

Cash poor, yall surely aren't that dumb. It's all about Jerry, full stop. That's the only reason for this bs.

It's honestly hilarious to me. Every day that goes by, he gets more haters and enemies and squashes any hopes of having a celebration when he leaves this planet. At this rate, people will celebrate his death like the end of WWII. The man is a ****ing imbecile and a dolt. Just a textbook example of a fool and his money. What a pos.

I'm a long suffering Cowboy fan too, but that description seems harsh for a man that is in the NFL Hall of Fame and is worth $17 billion.

Nah, I don't think it's harsh enough. I used to give excuses for him and the team. We've only once come close to sniffing a conference championship in 20 years. I heard him described on national radio yesterday as the grandpa whose family is afraid to take the car keys away and I think that was way too nice. He's more like the grandpa down the street who once had a very respected career, which is all but forgotten, and is now too damn stubborn to give up his car keys and is hated by all because he just keeps running his car into everyone's *****

We're all massive football fans. Just really tired of Jerry ruining half of our football random every year by wiping out our pro football team's hopes year after year.

Not only is he a jerk but worse he's a poor GM.

Have absolutely no confidence in this team this year. Jerry stuff again. Just ruins the whole show.
We've discussed this ad nauseum. I have other teams I've picked up on while waiting for Jerry to leave.

I know its fun to hate on Jerry. But I don't buy that any this is calculated. I think he just handles things the way he always has and just hasn't adjusted. Unfortunately, its starting to look like Stephen will carry the same dumb torch when Jerry's gone.

In related news, I heard an interesting comment recently from an NFL insider who said many teams are starting to raise a stink over the way the Eagles manipulate their cap situation. They aren't the only ones now but they pretty much invented this approach where every contract is a chain of bonuses instead of salaries. They're basically always able to sign whoever they want and have full control over the cap hits each year. Its genius, way above the Cowboys level who still operate the old school way. It might be too genius though and many other owners may try to address it through league rules or at a minimum the next CBA.

I find Stephen much more loathsome than Jerry.

Seeing a small sample of Joe Milton camp highlights. Enough to get me excited to watch him in preseason games.

Stephen thinks he's the smartest man in the room because that's what his daddy tells him.

Nothing will change when that idiot takes over the ship.

Best move is to find a new team to follow because dumb and dumber will continue to run it into the ditch.

Agreed. They waste around $10 million a year in cap space with these poor negotiations then they have the nerve to complain about the lack of money and place blame on the players. They are not professionals.

So far liking what I see out of Joe Milton. I'll be excited to watch him in the preseason. I bet he will play almost 100% of the QB snaps in those 3 games, so we should get a good idea of his potential. Hopefully he does enough to push Will Grier off the roster!

Raiders released Christian Wilkins. Cowboys should be seriously sniffing around with our lack of depth as long as there aren't any insane red flags.

He's rehabbing from a foot fracture. Implications that he hasn't been taking the rehab seriously.

True. I wouldn't be counting on him to be a starter. Just a depth piece with upside.

Raiders gave him a big contract last year and are just willing to walk away from him is pretty telling. Not to mention they basically said "F this guy" in corporate speak on his way out. I'd kick the tires but be wary. Then again, Cowboys seem to get lucky with the second chance projects.

Looks like the defense is winning a lot of the reps, so far, which isn't unexpected early in training camp before the offense gels.

Excited to see all the motions pre-snap from the offense. I know some QBs hate it, but you need to adapt in today's football landscape.

Also, like what I see about them involving Turpin more. They need to get him a good 5-7 touches per game that get him in space IMO - use that speed!

Definitely good signs.

You have potentially the best WR in the game when it comes to lining up anywhere on the field. Putting him in motion and/or those around him increases the difficulty. Do it!

And Turpin... Yeah, there is no substitute for pure speed and 0 to 60 burst. Turpin has both and there was no excuse for the lack of creativity with him under Mike.

Obvious caveat that this is only training camp, but by many accounts Tyler Guyton is looking good. Voch posted some nice looking reps.

He's done a lot of work transforming his body, and he's holding up well enough against the absolutely filthy group of pass rushers we have.

I like the Ferguson extension. He's a pretty good TE (probably top 12 in the league) when healthy and we are definitely paying him under top dollar, which is good.

It's really a 2 year, $30mil deal that we could easily get out of if he doesn't live up to potential. As the 3rd receiving target in this offense, I think he can feast on some of the underneath stuff. And we know Dak likes throwing to his TE historically.

All in all, smart extension. Doesn't preclude them from drafting another TE in a couple years if someone is too good to pass up.

Yes, Guyton has definitely been doing his part to be a real pro in his first NFL off-season. In every way, he's doing all the necessary things if you want to be in the league for several years.

The good news is that he doesn't have to be great right now. He's got an All Pro guard next to him. We just need him to be OK/good this year. Time will tell but there are positive signs.

Voch has also been talking about our back-up RT. Playing very well and not much, if any, drop off as Steele is nursing a "minor" ankle injury. He feels like we might have the deepest O-line group in the NFL.

Agreed. Minor setback last year getting banged up / missing games and not having his QB1. But if he can get back on track to the guy we saw make a big jump after his rookie year, this deal is going to be a huge bargain for Dallas.

And this is how it's supposed to be done! In a league where tomorrow is never guaranteed and a guy that has never seen "real" NFL money... Jake is now a multi-millionaire and Dallas probably has a cap friendly TE1. Win/Win.
Tksymm7

I think the line should be very solid this year. Not best in the league type of stuff, but for sure top 10 with upside, and Guyton will be a big part of the improvement. He's going to get beat some by guys there's no getting around that. It's just part of it playing the position and being a WIP still.
jr15aggie

We'll see if it leads to results on the field, but we've got some real people movers in the middle of this line. Certainly the best we've had since prime years Fred & Martin.

3 first round picks in the past 4 years.... we can't afford for the O-line to be anything less than "pretty good" this year. I think they will be.
Tksymm7

I think so too. We'll struggle in pass protection at times, imo, but we should be a pretty dang good run blocking team. And our "OC" is a very highly regarded o-line coach and run game coordinator.
