Thread on politics board, but the salon owner we talked about got 7 days in jail for defying the restraining order
Just saw this on the news. Total BS. He would have let her go if she said she was selfish, which is a bull**** ask. Her response is I'm not saying I'm selfish for trying to make sure I can feed my kids.
She was doing this more for attention and to be a martyr than to put food on her table.
I believe it was the second or third time she opened after being fines. Also, she's raised enough money on facebook from supporters to cover her legal expenses. She's past the point of putting food on the table. She was looking to be made an example. This situation (quarantine) is now so polarizing: some people are upset and have essentially gone about as normal, and others are taking extra precautions. If you are vocally disrespectful any one way, you've likely alienated half the population. This isnt a good thing for a business owner who needs the general public. Half the folks will regard her as the salon owner who disregarded public safety for the dollar and may wonder what other safety precautions she's ignored.

While I agree that she had passed the point of doing this just to put food on the table, I also think the judge was going for an attention grab by telling her to apologize in front of him.

I'm sure her business will do just fine. And I don't mind seeing the government challenged on whose livelihood can be considered non-essential and shut down for extended period on a whims of bureaucrats.

I doubt it. Only private business can require masks and it is tough to run a restaurant where everyone's mouth is covered.

And bureaucrats who have zero worries about whether their paychecks will keep coming. Would assume cutting his (likely overly inflated) salary would change his self righteous opinion on the shutdown pretty quickly.

I was not aware of this, but now Jenkins has mandated all restaurant employees and patrons wear a mask:

Here's a COVID dashboard for Texas only.

One of the pages has Trauma Service Area (TSA) Hospital Data. We are all in TSA E. TSA E has 7.8 million people within it. The number of active COVID patients in TSA E is 611.

611 active COVID patients in North Central Texas.

https://txdshs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/ed483ecd702b4298ab01e8b9cafc8b83
Yesterday's active COVID patient number is 636.
Yesterday's active COVD patient number is 530!

That's a day over day drop of 106 people. I would not have expected a drop that big. I would expect phase II to begin on time two Friday/Mondays from now - whenever it was originally scheduled.
TSA E (7,888,098 Texans) latest number is 513 COVID patients.
TSA E (7,888,098 Texans) latest number is 674 COVID patients. Welp, T&Ps to all of you who crowded into all of those TexMex restaurants. I HOPE YOUR DELICIOUS MARGARITAS ON THE ROCKS WAS WORTH IT.
Currently at 669 patients.

The low number of active COVID patients in the state of Texas (1,750) are not really cooperating with Jenkins' plan.

He told us what exactly though? My belief is we could see 100k new cases pop up and it still wouldn't stress our hospitals.
Enrico Pallazzo

Any negative trend he can sell. As cases go up, he will be trying to spin that in his favor and some lemmings will buy it. Just look what he was already doing with the doom and gloom last week on the count increases

Exactly the point, as long as the hospitals aren't overwhelmed he can say his plan worked. Regardless of the fact that his initial data said that with a "wuhan style" 3 month lockdown Texas would still see 5000 deaths.

If it was solely up to him - lockdown would remain as-is (or, as it was in April) until there was a vaccine. No question about it.

It's a moot point thankfully, but having a system that currently puts THAT mindset in control at the county level during an emergency (until or unless the state steps in) is deeply unsettling. Harris county has it just as bad.

Lol Dale going "unplugged" on the salon owner while he's sitting by the pool of his nice country home raking in six figs somehow as a sports anchor when there's no sports going on. Wish he'd get furloughed.

I doubt if it was solely up to him - lockdown would remain as-is (or, as it was in April) until there was a vaccine. I'm not certain, but it is reasonable that while the decision comes from his desk, he is consulted by medical officials and is not doing any of this out of spite.

It's a moot point thankfully because we have checks and balances and a system in place that reins in anyone trying to take absolute control over the county. I feel for those in Harris county because as I have read they somehow elected someone completely ill-equiped for the job and it shows.

Texas has started publishing estimated active case data, i.e. confirmed cases less estimated recovered and deaths. In theory this should be a more real-time look than just the total case data.

Per the State health department website, the formula for estimates is as follows:
  • Total Confirmed Cases
  • Less: Any Deaths
  • Of the remaining, estimate 20% will require hospitalization / 80% will not
  • Hospitalized case recovery time is ~32 days
  • Non-hospitalized case recovery time is ~14 days

Clay Jenkins doesn't release overall tests performed (which is increasing across the state, and the % positive has remained pretty stable) and Dallas does not track recoveries.

Yep. The data shouldn't be on the same chart. Jenkins is playing with his own data. He's a snake and don't trust what he posts.

Might as multiply our numbers by 1000. Nothing will change. Look at hospital data.
