I know the 04 guy he speaks of. Awesome guy. Very tragic.752bro4 said:Ol Jock 99 said:

-Class of 2003 guy I know just got out of 10 days in the unit.
-Class of 04 guy I know just lost his dad (old) and sister-in-law (not). His brother was in the unit too but made it out. Mom caught it too, but had been vaxxed, and was fine.
-Friend from back home in Centex (she's 43) has a niece and nephew-in-law in the unit. Good times.
So one person you know firsthand and some people that other people you know also know?

MISD - Elementary option to go virtual for Fall 2021.
It seems like FISD is offering a virtual school option for Fall of 2021 due to rising cases and children under 12 still not having any vaccination. I support this 100% but I live in MISD school district and my child is 9. I don't understand why this is so political and the officials do not seem to have a problem with putting children at risk. It seems like we have learned nothing from the past. I don't want to see a case or two and then officials take some action rather I'd like them to be proactive about things and offer virtual at least to children under 12 for Fall 2021 and see where things go with vaccination.
Just think about it - what is the big deal if our kids do not get proper education for a year or two until Covid settles down. It is not like the world is going anywhere, it is pretty much same situation everywhere. I am very unhappy about where MISD is going with this situation and hope that they'd do the right thing for the children and their families.

Governor Abbott needs to get his **** together or the tyrants won't stop.Moments ago, I received a copy of The Hon. Tonya Parker’s order enjoining @GovAbbott from stopping local mask requirements here. I’ll get feedback from health, education and business leaders tonight and in the morning with the anticipation of issuing an emergency order tomorrow.

I'll bet there was no mention of any metric or data point they would use to rescind the mandate Jenkins is going to put in place tomorrow. Even if there was one, we're going to do this dance again in a few months when the next variant emerges.
I haven't checked our daily numbers, but I imagine we're close to peaking with delta, if we haven't already. Also, this does nothing for the vaccine efforts for now, but I'm sure he'll go full vaccine passports if he's allowed to ignore Abbott on this.
Well that's certainly worth looking into. What does the data say?2wealfth Man said:

Are you really good with Jenkins usurping power like this? His county entity only exists because it is authorized by the state. At this point he has gone rogue and has no real power to tell me or anyone else in Dallas County what to do. As noted above, there will be no end to this stuff with this guy; and there is no telling what other areas of our lives he is going to self-authorize himself to control.True Anomaly said:

Its just not feasible for most families that require both parents to have full time jobs. The ISDs are really gonna struggle in general this year with a lot of 1st year teachers anyways. My wife's middle school lost nearly 20 teachers who were just fed up and reached a breaking point last year. My wife has 3 interviews this week alone with different companies to get out of education (fingers crossed she gets offers for her sanity's sake).tysker said:
More and more, home schooling is a better option for parents, students and teachers. Sad the ISDs and Boards don't appreciate that they are pushing their customers away from their already mediocre services.
The ISDs have made it hard for teachers to teach and it's just not worth it for so many employees. Teachers cant teach, kids cant learn, and parents are bound by the whims of ISD board members and the loudest protestors. Not a great scenario for anyone. If this goes on again for another year I envision current resentment create dissension and Texas seeing a increase microschools and alt-learning programs.wangus12 said:Its just not feasible for most families that require both parents to have full time jobs. Wear a mask outside at the State Fair for your "safety" and enjoy all of the Big-Tex Choice Award finalists serving their fried food...Quote:

If the fried food contains enough grease/oil, you can extrude it through the mask directly into the customers mouth. That's the safest waySoupNazi2001 said:tysker said:Wear a mask outside at the State Fair for your "safety" and enjoy all of the Big-Tex Choice Award finalists serving their fried food...Quote:

Good luck enforcing that. Put mask on to walk in fair. Take off the rest of the time.
