I know we are a .500 team, and I know we need to add another star. But one of the biggest mistakes GMs make is to make a trade just to make a trade. If we were to trade for Josh Smith like your suggestion, and he bails in the offseason, then we are in an even deeper hole than we are in today because of our lost picks and other players that we sent in the deal. It has to be the right move, and Josh Smith isn't it.
You're looking at it in the present only. It would be insane to make a move when you know there's a chance that player won't even be on your roster next year, especially if it is with a guy like Josh Smith, who isn't exactly a game changer to begin with.
And I don't think we've had bad drafts. Parsons, Morris, and Patterson are all playing very well so far. Our problem is we've had to pick at #14 every year for the past 3 years. But your sarcastic comment about the draft failures is highly exaggerated

No sarcasm. P Patt and Parsons have played well. Not good. Not great. I think that 4 years is long enough to wade around in mediocrity. And you're assuming Josh Smith walks. What if he stays? Then I'm not so "crazy" anymore
The point is we would be able to offer him a contract in free agency next year while keeping our draft picks and our roster the way it is. And there are also much bigger targets that we could pursue rather than Josh Smith

Over the last decade, the Rockets have done away with some of my favorite players, too. Brooks, Lowry, Landry, Dragic, C-Bud, etc.

This was the definition of a schedule loss. Played Tuesday night in Toronto. Then flew from there to Minneapolis to go to McHale's daughter's funeral on Wednesday morning. Then flew from there to OKC to play the best team in the West, with Dick Bavetta reffing. OKC got the benefit of the doubt on a lot of calls from what I saw.
There was no way the Rockets were going to win that game. They were exhausted and you could see it, and it didn't help that old man Bavetta was there.
I still can't believe Bavetta let Thabeet back into the game after his other referee ejected him. What a way to show up your partner after he gets shoved by Thabeet.

Toyota center was the loudest I'd heard out of staples, american airlines, reunion (lol), att and alamodome that I've been too. Really really great 4th crowd.

2. Greg Smith led us to the W, not Douglas (although he made great plays down the stretch).
3. The Rockets ALWAYS play the Lakers hard. For some reason, Houston still treats these games against L.A. like playoff games. The crowd at Toyota Center is still ass, but they do show out pretty well for the Lakers. Couldn't make it to this game because of class. Were half the fans wearing Kobe jerseys like they usually do when he comes to town?

^ This was awesome! He issued both teams a warning and they kept up with their antics. It was hilarious. IDK what the heck was going on but they wanted Delfino on the box with Howard.
HNIC- to answer your question, YES! We were surrounded by people with Black Mamba shirts and Bryant-24 jerseys. I don't know what was more annoying, the chants of MVP when Kobe was shooting free throws or the tramp who was beligerently drunk and screaming LETS GO LAKERS a few rows behind us. Either way at the end of the game she was quiet.
Toyota Center last night seemed to fill up more in the fourth quarter than it did the entire game. IDK where the heck all these people came from, but in the 4th when Hack-Howard was in full effect it got the loudest it has been all season. IDK if it is a pride thing or a learning lesson or what but D'Antoni shouldve pulled him.
Players of the game for the Rockets in no particular order:
1) Toney Douglas
2) Greg Smith
3) Carlos Delfino
Jeremy Lin still sucks...........

James Harden is a great player and all and is an unbelievable scorer but the guy gives no effort on the defensive side of the ball. At least he isn't tonight. Hard to watch.
Probably one of the worst games we have played all season. And San Antonio is hitting almost everything. Just bad.
Harden is actually is an outstanding defensive player, but on this team he's been forced to play too many minutes and carry too much of the offensive load. Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are both considered great defenders, but both take the easy assignment most of the game and don't expand a lot of energy.
Everybody tries to hide their stars until the game counts or unless it's a playoff game.
I know what Harden is capable of defensively, the Spurs have had some great battles against him recently. I've watched him play a lot over the last few years but today was my first time to watch him play a full game in a Rockets uniform. What I saw was a complete lack of effort defensively (pretty much from Houston's whole team tbh) but he just looked different and disinterested on that side of the ball compared to when he was at OKC. I guess if nobody else is playing D then why should he. He looks great offensively though. If it is indeed fatigue then that's even worse tbh.

It's been this way since Van Gundy left.. but even Adelman had his teams play a little defense every once in a while.
I mean.. how many times can two guys fall for the same shooter only to leave another one wide open?
