Had harden been put in a little earlier in the 4th quarter of some of these close losses, we probably see different outcomes. It's one of the little things about McHale's coaching that bothers me
I really think if the Rockets could stop losing against inferior opponents, we could push up to about the 6th seed, passing both the Jazz and the Warriors.

If I'm Houston I go hard after J-Smoove and hope no one offers him a max deal. You guys need his defense badly. Having him police the paint with Asik would help make up for Lin's defensive shortcomings. He is also capable of stepping out on Durant or any other elite scoring swing men on the perimeter.

Pau actually has one more year on his deal. He is an unrestricted free agent in 2014.
Zach Randolph also has an additional year on his contract, then a player option.
He also will eat up over $17 mil in salary next year.

In a dream world, the perfect fit is Kevin Love.
From my observations, Ryan Anderson of NOH would also be a great fit, and at a much cheaper rate. However, he too isn't available.

Love would be great fit offensively and fill a huge need rebounding wise, but I don't think he provides what the Rockets need defensively. Ryan Anderson is a defensive liability as well.
Josh Smith would give you the whole package. Not sure that you don't offer the max if needed.

Josh Smith is a very good player with a lot of tools, but I just don't think he is a max-contract superstar.
I know there are a lot of players that aren't superstars with Max contracts, but that is beside the point.
He is a career 15/8 player with a mediocre 3-point shot. He has a good all-around skill set and a ton of athleticism (will he still be jumping like that after 13 years in the league - he is in year 9 now)
At the same time, SOMEONE will overpay him with this being such a weak class.
