I am not saying I think we are the favorite for Gasol, but I also don't see him going back to the lakers to Kobe and his band of losers. I don't think any team gives him more than 10-12 million a year. He already said the Spurs, Griz and Bulls would be at the top of his list and I doubt any of those teams can pay much more than the MLE.
What if we signed him to a three year deal. We could pay him one year at the MLE to be Timmy's backup and then bump him up to 10 million for 2 more years as a starter. He gets one last title run with Manu and Timmy and then gets paid while playing the last couple years with Parker and Leonard in his prime. Heck if Timmy decides at the last minute he wants to stick around for a three-peat (i know I am dreaming) then him and Pau can basically swap salaries and roles!
As long as Tim's knees don't give out, he can play in this league for another couple years especially at reduced minutes. Manu is the one that may be done after next year.
Plus Parker will likely be a shell of himself after about another three years, So Pau would keep us competitive through the Parker years. If I had to bet, I would say Pau goes to the Griz or the Spurs unless someone gives him an absurd offer of 15 million+.
