Time for Mitch to prove that he learned something from Pop.

Start this:

Biyumbo - Ingram - Umude - Waters - McLaughlin

Bummer but I still think Castle makes if someone bows out.

Castle didn't make it.

Kawhi legitimately deserved it over LeFlop, but I really wanted to see Dillon Brooks make it over Bron just for the trolling he would do.

Allstar selections are a joke. No way LeBron deserved it. 2 selections from a number 6 seed is stupid.

You can't tell me that Dillon Brooks getting it over Bron wouldn't have been peak comedy. If Brooks was the reason that Bron's AS game streak stopped? Man I would love that.

Hey Mitch. Don't give up a 13-0 run at home without taking a timeout.

Rookie mid major move.

And he doesn't challenge a ball that clearly wasn't off of Keldon. Banchero 3 next play. It's infuriating.

And the present.

I'll say it again. Three years from now he's gonna be our top guy. Already more mature than Wemby.

Not if you factor in defense. Healthy Wemby may be the greatest defensive player of all time. Hell he led the league in raw block totals last year in just 46 games.

What Harper and Castle bring is a relentless pressure on the rim where we can use Wemby as a spot up shooter on offense to let him rest. And as long as he keeps hitting 44% on C&S 3s, that's a pretty elite game plan.

We need a very healthy dose of Harper after the break. If he starts he's a 20+ point guy every night. His pedigree is just too good. Insanely mature, and taught by two brilliant parents.

His decision making as a rookie is as a good if not better than Fox. That might say more about Fox though.

Na. Fox is solid. Harper is top 4 in league.

Harper just has an incredible bag and feel. He finishes on both sides of the rim. He finishes with finesse and power and does an incredible job of deciding when each is the right way. Just so much more refined than Castle.

If these two can learn to hit their 3pters at ~35% and learn a little elbow pull up like Devin and a floater like TP, the are both MVP candidates.

Rookie to Rookie. Look at the gravity Harper already has.

I didn't get to see the game because I had to finish my paper but love he nailed a three and a dunk.

We really need an enforcer for Wemby. Teams more and more are resorting to this kind of nonsense against Wemby.

Hey I think that's great for him.

That said, he still has a lot to learn and I question whether he can learn it. He just comes off like a feelings based milennial coach who isn't going to demand the most out of his guys.

He was Wemby's developmental coach and yet Wemby continues to make the same kind of silly and unnecessary mistakes. I question if he's ever told Wemby to knock off his point center aspirations.

Just listened to the newest all nba podcast with Tim Legler. A good spurs segment on there. I would have never have guessed but apparently, we are the best defensive rebounding team in the league.

You sure? Matt Nielsen is the bigs coach and was a big when he played. He is always next to Wemby on the bench.

And we have seen a lot of improvement from Wemby.

Turnovers: 3.7 to 3.2 to 2.7 - massive improvement
PER: 23.1 to 24.2 to 27.7
TS% .565 to .594 to .618
FG% from .465 to .476 to .504 (while fewer shots are assisted, so he is creating his own shot more)
FTAr from .309 to .433
Now leading league in defensive rebounding rate and DRB and we are somehow the #1 team in the league at defensive rebounds.
PER 36 scoring from 26 to 26.2 to 30
Meanwhile usage has stayed kind of the same (32.2 as a rookie and 32.5 now)

The only notable decreases are assists (I believe due to having 3 legit PGs rather than just Tre Jones and Point Sochan) and blocks (I believe due to other team avoidance).

I don't subscribe to the "he's not improving" thing. By basically all metrics, he clearly is. Of players with similar usage, he has a lower turnover % than Luka, Giannis, Jokic, Cade, Booker, Harden, Ball, LeBron, etc. The turnovers are frustrating, but he is doing it at lower rate than other superstars.

Yeah, rookie year he was working with him. I assume with him taking over as acting HC last year and now HC this year, that he handed that off.

As far as improvement, not saying Wemby hasn't improved. But the whole needing to show his handles out top is just old and turnover prone at this point, and his bad habit of forcing long jumpers when he's gassed out on the court. He needs to learn and control those situations, and I'm not sure how long that should take but feels like it's overdue to be learned.

Yeah, we have been all season and its interesting because we have lost several games because of other teams ORBs.

Victor leads the league in DRB and DRB%.

We are also 2nd in the league in opponent's FTr. We are 2nd in FT differential after the ****ing LeFlops.

Even more shocking is we are 6th in turnover % and 4th in total turnovers. Counting the good way, not the bad way. We actually have improved all season on that and are climbing way up.

I think the being gassed thing is the real killer. We legitimately need to play long stretches of the game where he is a spot up shooter to let him rest. Let Harper, Castle, Fox dictate the offense and you can sub them every few minutes to let them go full speed constantly. Like he needs to play a Bruce Bowen role. Just take on the other teams' best defender to the wing and sit there. Or get a small guy and go sit in the dunker's spot and if he helps off you on the drive, you get an easy dunk.

Nothing fancy, just let him sit on offense. We just need some guys like Portis that can set screens and spot up on the other side.

I think part of what is going on is that the Spurs and Wemby still aren't 100% sure where his most dangerous spot is. I.e. where do you want him when you absolutely need to score.

When you watch nuggets games, Jokic sets up in the same spot at the high key every time. He faces and figures out if he's going to be doubled or not reading the defense and making the right decision. The nuggets just spam this set repeatedly and run a few variations of perimeter movement based on defensive alignment.

Part of the reason why this works for Jokic is that no one can push him around physically. We've tried to give the ball to Wemby here, and he gets leaned on pretty hard and ends up taking a fadeaway middy a lot of times.

I agree with Guitar that we need to move him around a bit more to figure out where his most deadly spots are and in particular where are the spots where we can keep him on the floor and not gas him out by forcing him to try and dribble penetrate from 25 feet out. With Fox, Castle and Harper we don't need Wemby to initiate the offense.

Spurs get two days of rest and catch OKC on a second night of a back to back on Wednesday. Thunder play a physical Orlando team the day before they play us. Would be big to go 4-1 against them on the season for a variety of reasons.

Agreed. And that's what drives me crazy.

We have three awesome guards. You don't have to be a creator Wemby. Go work the arc, hit some threes, pull your defender out of the paint, and stay clear of the abuse in the paint.

Bane lays out Wemby for no reason.

Wemby gets right up.

Bane/Dort should hopefully be cinema that leads to multiple games suspension for both of them.

Not gonna lie, pissed we didn't send two picks for this guy. 42% 3pt shooter, ok defender, 6'8 height, and his contract is even better than Julians. Next year at 2.8M unguaranteed and the following year at 3M team option.

Cut Waters' ass and send it. He's 4" taller than Waters and a better shooter.
