The Spurs earned an elevated trip in these standings mostly on the strength of a comeback win in Houston, and head coach Mitch Johnson will join Victor Wembanyama at the All-Star Game. The Spurs have a lot of interesting scenarios, but I do wonder what happens at power forward. You can never have too much shooting, so I have a Jeremy Sochan for Hauser swap here; I'm sure there would be some outgoing picks from San Antonio to complete a deal like this. Just keep an eye on the power forward spot for the Spurs, whether that's Sochan or even starter Harrison Barnes.


Would love to flip Sochan and a couple seconds for Hauser. He's probably less PF than Barnes. It's more of an upgraded Julian there.

Rumors of Spurs being interested in Goga. I thought he was pretty underwhelming in yesterday's game. But I'm fine with him as a 3rd string guy.

I would trade Sochan for him in a second. Goga makes 7.5M next year (4% of cap.) He's a really solid rim protector.

Plus if we are going to add all the French players for Wemby, why not all the Georgia players for Steph Castle?

Right. So it doesn't make sense that they would want to get better in a loaded draft class when their pick could potentially go to okc if they fall out of the bottom 8. I think Lauri is gone.

Spurs can take back about 5.5M more than they send out and stay under the tax threshold.

This is still my standing dream:

Bucks get Olynyk + 2026 and 2027 seconds

Suns get Sochan, Biyumbo, and McLaughlin + 2026 and 2028 seconds

Spurs get Portis, Nick Richards, ONeale, and Nigel Hayes (PHX scrub).

Spurs stay 174k under the tax. Suns save about 5.5M this year and get out of the tax (meaning they also get a tax dispersion of about $15M) and Suns and Bucks both get off salary for next year.

But I think that Minn will gut their roster to get Giannis and Giannis and Ant will be amazing... but our 2030 is going to look even better. Giannis will be 36. I think he is 1-2 more years in his prime if he can stay healthy, which is a big if.

To be fair, he's largely been riding the pine this season...

Sucks though. Will always wonder what could have been if Pop and co. hadn't tried to reincarnate Diaw in him.

Should have just been standing in the corner shooting 500 threes a day instead of trying to learn to be PG.

I don't think the shooting thing was ever going to work out for him. As a defensive specialist, he can still be a useful player on the right team, but his value here being a worse defender than Castle and not being able to shoot is limited.
