You know what else really bugs me about this movie?

In Man of Steel, Perry White and a few other people give Lois Lane sh*t for pursuing a story about a potentially super-human man/alien, as if that was the most ridiculous thing ever. When, now, in that same reality, less than 30 years prior, a super-human woman spoke to all of Earth via satellite (via her literal "Lasso of Truth"), inspiring them to renounce their wishes after a stone created by a literal Greek god granted a huge swath of humanity said wishes, resulting in nukes being launched and a near-cataclysmic global event that, in its wake, would have been studied more than any event in all of human history. In fact, it would have irrevocably changed the world forever. ANYTHING would have been possible after that. In that universe, in that 1984, the entire world experienced clear confirmation that Greek gods were, in fact, real. And 30 years later everyone's like, "OMG an alien!!! We're not alone???!!!" Not to mention, in Batman v Superman, Diana herself is still basically anonymous?

Whaaat?

God, I hate WW84 movie so much. Like, I don't *really* care about the MoS/BvS inconsistencies it created, it's the fact that the *creators* don't care that irks me.

Ha! Totally didn't think of that but that essentially negates Man of Steel.

How unbelievably sloppy. This movie needs to be purged as never happening.

Wow. Can't believe all that is really in the movie. I don't think you could make it worse if you tried.

I imagine the hardest thing about prequels is not ****ing up continuity with existing material. Lucas messed some things up, so of course DC/WB was going to...but boy oh boy, did they even bother thinking about Man of Steel/BvS/JL?

Setting this movie in 84 was just a terrible, terrible plan.

I think they watched Thor: Ragnarok and realized they wanted to make an 80s movie.

The post-credits should have been a deaged Tommy Lee Jones cameo of him using the MIB memory erasing device into the broadcast.

Now that's a crossover that would be bonkers enough to have made the next sequel something to look for are to.

I really think they're fast tracking the third movie to get something actually worthwhile as soon as possible. This is still one of WB's tent pole franchises after the first movie. They obviously realize what a miss it was, time to try and erase it.

And it will still make money.

so seriously, TCTTS said they had terrible test screenings and manipulated the reviews to show the movie in a favorable light, but by any standard, this move is objectively terrible, and muddles their entire cinematic universe, and the massive dropoff shows it, and im sure they wont release the amount of HBO Max subscribers who canceled after their week trial, further reducing their take.

Why green light/fast track the third one? This movie TANKED and will have lost the studio millions. Hollywood loves money so it make no sense. Are they pandering to the woke girl power crowd, who probably also feel this movie is terrible, because they too have eyes and ears and brains? They are gaslighting the audience completely, and it is absurd. This movie should be memory holed and not built upon. I really do not understand it.

I have literally never said either of those things.

Just FYI, a "test screening" is when an early, usually incomplete version of a movie is shown to a test audience, often months in advance of its eventual public debut, for the purpose of honing the movie. It's a totally different thing from showing the complete movie to critics a week or two before the public debut. The latter is what WW84 did, and hand-selecting certain critics to attend certain critics screenings is a common blockbuster practice, to try and ensure favorable early reactions, knowing said critics have liked similar fare in the past. There's nothing overtly nefarious about it, and I wouldn't really consider it outright "manipulation." It's lame for sure, but nothing out of the ordinary.

That said, apparently the movie *did* test badly, and there were reshoots summer 2019 to address the concerns from the test screenings. So the final version we got was AFTER they tried to fix it, as sad as that is.

Have not had the chance to read through this entire thread yet, just finished the movie. Wow, i cannot believe how awful this was on every level. Chris Pine saying "well **** Diana" was not only my favorite moment but summed it up perfectly. I loved the first one so much. Why can't they just look to the creators of the Justice League cartoons? Interesting story lines with depth and purpose, true to the characters. This tripe was like Fantastic Four movie bad

Think of it like this...

1) There was always going to be a third movie. No matter how bad this one did, the WW franchise as a whole is one of WB's most popular/lucrative, and is essentially too big to fail. A third WW movie following a terrible second WW movie will still make more money than, say, 75% of whatever else WB has on their slate.

2) What's a surefire way to either add additional ticket-sales/viewers, entice people who were on the fence, and/or counter bad reviews? Announce that this isn't the end of the franchise. In fact, those bad WW84 reviews you read? Yeah, they don't mean a thing. Because why would a bad movie be getting a sequel? That makes no sense! So go ahead and watch WW84, because the story doesn't end there!

True, but studios and networks have been doing this for decades. It's why the next season of a show is announced mid-run of the current season or just before the finale of the current season. It's why certain Marvel/Star Wars dates are announced years in advance. It's nothing new. There was always going to be a WW3 announcement opening weekend of WW84, just like countless franchises have done time and again.

Yeah, admittedly that's a slightly different scenario. But it's still an attempt to signal to the audience that no matter how bad the current one is, there will be more.

God help me but I may have to watch this again. I don't recall several of these stupid things people are pointing out (ex: this Chris Pine line).

I must have been laughing so hard in disbelief the first time I watched I missed them.
