Easily one of the worst superhero movies I've ever seen, if not *the* worst. Started around 1pm, it's nearly 11:30pm now, and I'm finally done. Took me over 10 hours to get through it, between welcomed breaks of laundry, work, and a bit of the Mavs/Lakers game.
What an absolute sh*t show.
How the hell did actual professionals come up with, agree to be in, and sign off on this mess? In addition to the many issues already mentioned, there is no reason this needed to be set in 1984, they didn't utilize the period at all, Diana learned literally the same lessons she learned in the first movie (save for the power of flight), and then lost Steve AGAIN in basically the exact same way (self sacrifice), with the exact same emotional result, and I just don't understand the point of any of it at all.
The most confusing thing, though, is how this wasn't panned harder by the critics who saw it early. There were a decent number of so-so reactions, among quite a few positives, but this is so historically bad that I'm shocked it took this long for that narrative to take hold. In addition to the reactions here, I've been scrolling Twitter today and Average Joe movie-goer really seems to despise this thing, and rightfully so. So how did we not know it was such a colossal mess going in?
This was originally supposed to come out November '19, was set to be completed in time for release, but then pushed to June '20. Then, obviously, it pushed again due to Covid. In other words, this movie has been sitting on the shelf for an entire year, and WB either inexplicably didn't know they had an all-time stinker, or did nothing to try and salvage it during that time. Granted, I don't know how you'd even begin to try, as it's flawed to its core, but, just... how? How did they screw this up THIS bad?
