The most confusing thing, though, is how this wasn't panned harder by the critics who saw it early. There were a decent number of so-so reactions, among quite a few positives, but this is so historically bad that I'm shocked it took this long for that narrative to take hold. In addition to the reactions here, I've been scrolling Twitter today and Average Joe movie-goer really seems to despise this thing, and rightfully so. So how did we not know it was such a colossal mess going in?

Really??? It's blatantly obvious why critics were scared to give an honest review. It rhymes with schmender.

Ding, ding, ding. And that's the same reason the first one got mind-blowingly good reviews when in reality it was merely better than average at the most.

Thoughts from yesterday's viewing...

I thought one of the most out of character things Gadot did was when she threw down the ring after reading the language of the gods. That seemed like the reaction of a tween girl instead of a super smart and worldly Prince or WW. Why would she throw it down like that and why would they leave it behind unless unless they already knew they didn't need it to reverse the wishes?

Why did we get 2 Pretty Woman dressing room makeovers?

Why does WW need always let the guy that's been a ghost for the last 40 years drive? He has probably never driven a car without a manual choke much less automatic transmission. I'm not going to mention a pilot waiting until the last minute to punch the throttle on a takeoff.

Was anyone else expecting a Back to the Future photo gag with the Trevor Ranch picture? I was totally surprised by the Interstellar watch gag.

I know there's a contingent here who finds "girl power" or whatever offensive and/or thinks that Hollywood and those who cover it is made up exclusively of social justice warriors and yada yada yada, but for this theory to be true you'd have to completely ignore all of the female-directed movies that *do* get ripped to shreds by critics year after year. We're long past walking on eggshells when it comes this kind of stuff. That, and we're seeing plenty of critics yesterday/today, who didn't have access to advance screenings, panning the hell out of it. I really think this was more of a Covid/lack-of-blockbusters thing than a don't-want-to-sh*t-on-a-female-director thing.

I have to think critics were just so desperate for a return of movies that they saw what they wanted to see in this one.

Kind of like when I was a kid and I'd been waiting my whole life for new Star Wars and I told myself phantom menace was awesome.

+ I bet a lot of them liked the "don't be greedy" message, which seemed like an undertone in a lot of the "this is the movie we need" or "so ambitious" reviews. I didn't read a ton of reviews, but none of the ones I read praised this for having a great story.
Thanks and gig'em

I'll never understand letting someone random person's review influence your level of enjoyment of a movie.

What's the harm in coming to trust certain critics/friends/etc who share similar opinions as our own over time? That doesn't mean we take their opinions as gospel, or can't form opinions on our own. But the best critics are literally experts in their field, are capable of making valid arguments, and can often voice/pinpoint issues that some of us feel but aren't able to express on our own at times. I think it's equally as weird to plug your ears and pretend to watch movies in a vacuum. Just because we're interested in the larger conversation about how a movie is being received publicly doesn't mean we're not able to enjoy what the majority doesn't or vice versa.
So? Yeah, it's good for discussions like this, but if you decide to see/not see a movie based on what someone else says....well, IMO, that's just dumb. See it and judge for yourself.

Up to that point, literally no one said they weren't going to see this because of bad reviews. You guys are creating a straw man here. I find it funny, however, now that it's being dunked on repeatedly, people here *are* saying they're not going to see it due to all the negative reactions, yet none of you are still saying "See it for yourself!" anymore. In fact, quite the opposite, with people encouraging them not to waste their time. So... don't listen to critics, but *do* listen to this thread? I have absolutely no problem with either, but there's not a lot of consistency in the messaging there.

Apple TV 4K. $180. Easily one of the best tech devices/inventions of the past 20 years. For those like myself, who don't own a PlayStation or X-Box, it's a no-brainer. I don't understand why every non-gamer who can afford an Apple TV doesn't own one. There's not an app or platform you can't download on it, there's nothing you can't stream to it, and it all works so simply and intuitively. It's my cable box, my music player, and my streaming device, all in one. I *love* Apple TV...

You can probably to that with plex but firecast on a fire stick is way easier.

Went in to this blind, not reading any reviews or anything about the movie. Just bad. Granting wishes, Cheetarah as a villan, lack of cool 80s stuff, etc. Oh well. At least I was comfy at home.

Not a fan of most comic movies. Last year nothing else was on so I watched the first WW just to see what the buzz had been about and it is ass. I can't believe it was popular. Gadot is hot and that is the only enjoyment I got out of it.

I had to look up the invisible jet back story because I was laughing my ass off while watching that they pulled something from freaking Superfriends.

Lo and behold, it's actually been around since her origin in the comics in various forms over the years. So dumb.

Now hoping for a Wonder Twins movie that includes Gleek.
That's going to happen during the next Flash/Supergirl/whatever crossover on the CW. (They actually alluded to Gleek in the last one).

Lol. I may have to get back into all that just so I can see this manifest. Would be a lot of tv watching though. I stopped watching Arrow and Flash end of S3 on arrow if I recall. They became quite intertwined and I got behind and stopped watching.

Yeah, and then Arrow ended with that crossover with nothing to fill its spot it kinda messed up all that.

Jack: I'm supposed to buy this ***** 2000 years, he can't find one broad to fit the bill? Come on, Dave, you must be doing something seriously wrong!

Just a dumb movie.

Can't even put the dumb stuff in order but going to mention things others haven't or not deep enough for me.

Apparently the lasso is infinitely long (or as long as WW needs it for whatever new thing she decides to do with). Swing from a lightning bolt... sure. Catch a cloud and swing from it... sure. have it split into a Y rope.. yep.

now she can fly... WTF.

Everyone RENOUNCES their wish... even terrorists, sociopaths, etc.

MAGIC!! yeah.. magic.
What was the real motivation for Max Lord? Just to get "more". What a dumb villain.

yeah, the Jet. sitting at the smithsonian museum, fully fueled, ready to fly... and is there in an actual airport at the smithsonian... and I don't think most airports had ground radar that good for the tower to notice it on radar on a runway.... and yeah, a fighter jet doesn't have enough fuel to fly to Cairo from DC. Where did they land in Egypt?

and yes, the fighting and jumping "physics". She floats around defying gravity (before she learned how to fly from Steve Trevor)

dialog so bad throughout.

MAGIC! (Yes, mentioning it twice)

DC just sucks so bad except maybe for Batman... magic, overly-powerful heroes (superman and now Wonder Woman... don't know enough about others... likely more).

The kids on the road with the convoy coming IN THE DESERT where anyone would have seen them coming from 7 miles away (the horizon distance).

And she was going faster than 60MPH when she swung down and grab the kids. "Hey kids I just hit you at 60MPH.. but it is was with my arms to pick you up so you know... you will be fine"

The invisible jet was one of the only things I thought actually tracked. It made sense that they would need to avoid radar somehow and making a lesser copy of the magic that had already been used in the show by a greater god seemed like a legitimate way to accomplish it.

To be fair, magic is a pretty big thing in the DC universe and somewhere along the way WW started flying in the comics and became ultra powerful almost on the level with Superman. It did not translate to this movie though. Just terrible execution. Even her constant pose shifting while flying was dumb. It was just awkward looking.

It's strange. The DC tv shows have been pretty decent while their movies have mostly sucked. Titans and Doom Patrol are really good.
