The more I think about it the more annoyed I am by a variety of narrative choices.
The initial concept maybe could have kinda worked had they limited it and even had a bit of potential to be clever, but there was so much pure randomness about this that as a whole it's like wtf.
After 50 years of doing this the general public is only kind of aware of who WW is? Why is a fully fueled fighter with range to get to Egypt sitting outside the Smithsonian? What happened to Handsome Guy that Steve just popped into and why couldn't he have just shown up? And if Steve was "in" Handsome Guy didn't he have his ID/passport? Why is the secret tv station fully staffed and ready to go live at 30 seconds notice? How were 8 bit CRTs able to display a tv signal? How was the message being broadcast when the camera was knocked out?
I came in expecting to like this from the general critical response but it was just so all over the place. Reading the reviews that like it they seem to focus on being emotionally connected to the film, which is fine and a fair reason to like a movie, but they just gloss over the rather large plot holes and shortcomings as "not flawless" rather than calling it what it is.
Yes. Jenkins didn't write the first Wonder Woman but this one was her baby it seems. Didn't the Lucasfilm people get a chance to look at this?Champ Bailey said:
Anybody worried about Rogue Squadrons now?

The most confusing thing, though, is how this wasn't panned harder by the critics who saw it early. There were a decent number of so-so reactions, among quite a few positives, but this is so historically bad that I'm shocked it took this long for that narrative to take hold. In addition to the reactions here, I've been scrolling Twitter today and Average Joe movie-goer really seems to despise this thing, and rightfully so. So how did we not know it was such a colossal mess going in?

Even if Black Panther wasn't your cup of tea, it was at worst a decent story with incredible production design and great performances.PeekingDuck said:

critical consensus has dropped. now down to 68 on rotten tomatoes.
i get that it is Christmas, but they (critics) were all provided digital versions way before today.
i cannot help but be skeptical that they (RT) held back adding some reviews for a few hours.
other thing is that they have now wasted both of WWs top bad guys in a boring, irrelevant single movie.
Max Lord was a crappy version of the comic character (again, he is exactly like Killgrave/The Purple Man from Jessica Jones)
And the Cheetah arc hadstory beats from the character, it was still a wasted use of what is essentially Wonder Woman's Joker.

Wife wanted to watch last night. When we tried them first WW movie we quit after 20 minutes. Should have done the same with this one. We both really enjoyed the beginning, then the rest sucked.

Don't try to assign logic to what my wife wants. She swatted that argument down in gold medal fashion.YouBet said:Garrelli 5000 said:

You quit the first movie but no this one? Are you living in the upside down world?
So? Yeah, it's good for discussions like this, but if you decide to see/not see a movie based on what someone else says....well, IMO, that's just dumb. See it and judge for yourself.TCTTS said:MuckRaker96 said:
I'll never understand letting someone random person's review influence your level of enjoyment of a movie.
What's the harm in coming to trust certain critics/friends/etc who share similar opinions as our own over time? That doesn't mean we take their opinions as gospel, or can't form opinions on our own. But the best critics are literally experts in their field, are capable of making valid arguments, and can often voice/pinpoint issues that some of us feel but aren't able to express on our own at times. I think it's equally as weird to plug your ears and pretend to watch movies in a vacuum. Just because we're interested in the larger conversation about how a movie is being received publicly doesn't mean we're not able to enjoy what the majority doesn't or vice versa.
So what was her "gold medal" argument?Garrelli 5000 said:Don't try to assign logic to what my wife wants. She swatted that argument down in gold medal fashion.YouBet said:Garrelli 5000 said:

Wow. I had every intention of this being the first new movie I would see in theaters since Tenet.
After scrolling through this thread, I may just watch this on HBO Max just in case it really is as bad as ya'll are saying.

this is one i might have ventured to the theater to see, but as we have HBO Max, it's hard to pass up for "free".
Apple TV 4K. $180. Easily one of the best tech devices/inventions of the past 20 years. For those like myself, who don't own a PlayStation or X-Box, it's a no-brainer. I don't understand why every non-gamer who can afford an Apple TV doesn't own one. There's not an app or platform you can't download on it, there's nothing you can't stream to it, and it all works so simply and intuitively. It's my cable box, my music player, and my streaming device, all in one. I *love* Apple TV...

That's going to happen during the next Flash/Supergirl/whatever crossover on the CW. (They actually alluded to Gleek in the last one).YouBet said:
I had to look up the invisible jet back story because I was laughing my ass off while watching that they pulled something from freaking Superfriends.
Lo and behold, it's actually been around since her origin in the comics in various forms over the years. So dumb.
Now hoping for a Wonder Twins movie that includes Gleek.
