It's not knowingly misleading with an agenda if it's faithfully adapting a source material that is universally praised by both sides of the political aisle. Your opinion is he injected politics because it made you feel a way about Truman that you felt wasn't nuanced but that's the way Oppenheimer felt about Truman…whether he was right or wrong. No one debates that fact. It's not some political slight.

Which brings me back to the Odyssey. Just because one feels a way about Nolan's decisions does not make them politically motivated. Let's see the movie and what he is going for before labeling the film woke or DEI or miscast or whatever. You can hate the movie and the casting once you see the finished product but to assume a level of politics that Nolan has NEVER injected into his films site unseen is absurd to me. The whole thing just feels like tearing down someone just to do it, which we LOVE to do in America so I guess it's right on time.

Fair enough, but from my posts on this thread I think it's fairly clear that my intention hasn't been to tear Nolan down. I've admitted to being a fan of most of his movies, even ones I take issue with in certain ways. I wish people didn't have to be so black & white on this forum sometimes. You really can like a movie and critique certain aspects of it, or dislike a movie but still find parts to praise. He's one of the best technical directors in the business, but not above criticism.

I have no idea who that thanos guy is, and didn't even look because it's totally irrelevant. The point is the hypocrisy that's hilariously being pointing out, re: a blowhard like Sorbo. Never mind that your response underlines that you clearly have nothing of substance to say to the point itself, so you instead had to go hunting through that guy's posting history so as to find something to critique.

I read through his stuff because I can't figure out what his response to sorbo is even supposed to mean much less why you think it's an example of hypocrisy. The community note at least makes sense as a retort.

Like Elon, Sorbo has been complaining on X for days about "DEI" and "historical accuracy," re: Helen. That's what his "DEI is one thing" comment is referring to - all his past *****ing.

He then moves on to yet another grievance, accusing Nolan of "desecrating Greece" for not depicting it as colorful as it is in real life/the image on the left. Only, Sorbo is too dumb to know that Athena shrouds Ithaca in mist so that Odysseus doesn't recognize it upon his return, hence the misty, muddy look of the Damon and Zendaya (Athena) image on the right.

In other words… a perfect microcosm of this entire outrage fest, where the loudest voices have neither the knowledge, context, nor the experience of seeing the movie for themselves yet, before engaging in their endless rants (y'all think I'm bad, both Sorbo and Elon have been tweeting about this obsessively for days).

That Thanos dude is then calling back to Sorbo's DEI/historical complaints by showing Sorbo's popular Hercules character interacting with a black woman… in ancient Greece. Thus highlighting Sorbo's hypocrisy, alongside his stupidity.

Comparing the Odyssey to the tv show Hercules is like comparing the Dodgers to the Savannah Bananas. The Odyssey is a very serious and important artistic form of western and white culture. The tv show was B rated mindless fun that isn't meant to be taken seriously...just pure late night tv slop fun.

Be better in your comparisons. Especially since you are more high brow than us poor plebs that know nothing about culture and art.

You don't have TCs endurance, nor his self importance and need for validation. Let him win this. He needs this more than you do.

I honestly can't imagine being so devoted to a cause and role as entertainment police as Tc. Seriously, does he ever work? He's on here pretty much 24 hours a day to make sure that everyone knows that he is the supreme source of everything movie and TV related, and everyone needs to know it and stay in their place.

well we all know that if anyone wanted to white wash a movie based on African Mythology all hell would break out. But black washing an important part of western and white culture, they are all in for that party. White Western culture is bad...we are just a bunch of mayo loving white bread folks in the heartland.

If he wanted a rapper to be a bard in the movie, he could have chosen someone even better than Travis Scott. Let's say, Eminem.

My issue isn't mainly that Lupita is black....she just doesn't fit the character's beauty. I can find 1,000 more beautiful women than her just on A&M's campus...and yes some of them are black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. At best Lupita is a slump buster. If the character is considered the most beautiful in the world, well the actress needs to be in the top 5 in real life...at least top 10.

There wasn't a big outrage about Samuel L Jackson playing Nick Fury because he totally personified Nick Fury with his attitude and actions and he is just a badass.

There wasn't a big outrage about Idris Erba playing Heimdall in Thor. He totally fit the bill. Hell if Nolan really want to race swap a character he could have done it with Idris and Achilles. Some people might have a quick thought about the race issue, but most then would be l can see it because he is a badass.

You've read this thread, correct? And apparently every response to any twitter post saying she's miscast?

Because if you have then you'd see that every time someone even hints that she's not attractive enough to play Helen of Troy it's rebutted with some variation of a "you must be racist" response.

There's no room for nuanced discussion in today's world, and throwing out accusations of racism are the quickest way to assume the moral high ground.

She's miscast because she is both mid as it gets and black. If she was hot and black, she's still miscast. But mid and black is a double-down. I mean, if they had DJ Qualls play Shaft, no one would be going "well, if he was a lot more cool and imposing, it would work." Nope, she is bad for the role because she is black. She is also bad for the role because she is mid. It's okay to say it.

Why isn't everyone more pissed about John Leguizamo being cast as Eumaeus? He's probably got more screen time than Page or N'Yongo, he's from Colombia playing a Greek, and he especially outspoken about his politics.
