100%. I'm one of the crazy people who enjoy star studded casts, big blowout budgets, R ratings, and long run times. But different strokes....
So, my issue with big star-studded casts is that IMO there aren't many actors who can disappear sufficiently enough into a role that you stop seeing them and only see the character. Day-Lewis, Oldman, Dicaprio, Cillian Murphy (younger actors that show a lot of promise are Chalamet and Austin Butler) are just a few that come to mind. Even great actors like Cruise and Denzel are still Cruise and Denzel no matter what roles they're playing.
In the cast of The Odyssey the only big name I envision who'll disappear into his role enough to become the role is Robert Pattinson. That dude has just impressed me so much with how he can become his characters. Maybe Charlize Theron? Hey, maybe Leguizamo believe it or not. The dude has more range than often given credit for.
For the rest of the cast, well.... Matt Damon is always Matt Damon no matter his role (and I love him, but still). Zendaya will be frowny one-note Zendaya, like she is in every role. Jon Bernthal, love him, but he has one mode and he plays that one mode to the extreme in every role.
I guess it's just that in movies with so many recognizable faces I'm always distracted thinking, "oh, that guy is from such-and-such movie!".
Edited to add that it's not just this movie I'm bagging on for the all-star casting. I'm starting to get concerned about Heat 2 going for the big names rather than who might fit the roles the best.
