One of McCain's last actions was teaming up with Murkowski and Susan Collins to vote against ending Obamacare despite campaigning that he would end it, only to spite Trump. He was a swamp rat.

Whether you believe the Trump is covering up some of the Epstein files or not, what Massie said wasn't a principled stand. A principled stand would be to vote yes or no based on if the bill did good for the American people, especially his constituents.

I understand being resolutely principled but in the real world, you can resolutely principle the plane of state into the side of a Mountain if you refuse to bank the plane at some point.

The problem is always that there are lots of other players and powers and interests and they don't care at all about your principles, but will gladly exploit them if achieve their own ends. What then if your principled stance results in avoidable harm?

The real world is tradeoffs, deals, compromises, because the opposition also has agency and goals and plans. Resolute uncompromising will makes you something everyone can ignore, an irrelevant factor to the negotiations going on around you. It's admirable if morally principled but that fades when in a pragmatic sense you end up failing to prevent harm being done when you may have had the opportunity to compromise to prevent the worst excesses of it. We don't live in any person's ideal world.

Or maybe he does what he thinks is best for his constituents and the country (and the Constitution) whether you agree with it or not. One thing for sure, he is not a Trump boot-licking lapdog (unlike many on this board) and that is definitely a positive in his favor.

And Massie is WAY more conservative than Trump has ever been.

It seems the only things Massie isn't conservative on are unlimited executive power to wage war, Epstein coverup and blind support for Trump. The first two are directly related to the last one. Therefore Massie isn't conservative because he's not lockstep with Trump.
