As I said, above, regardless of eventual outcome, he should have done all he could to push for it. He chose not to.
If Cornyn had ever thought himself capable of being Majority Leader, my expectation was for him to change McConnell's mind, and be public about it.
Cornyn wasn't just Mitch's friend. He was his loyal lieutenant and whip. So now as McConnell rides into the sunset burning bridges as he goes, Cornyn should have whipped McConnell, saying "I've had your back for all these years, and now it's time you have mine."
First privately, then publicly.
THAT was my expectation from Cornyn. And Paxton actually teed up the ball for him.
