It's a simple formula. Nut up and vote the issues.

Bingo. Policy, not personality.

Paxton will go to DC and vote for more things I agree with.

Talarico will go to DC and vote with Chuck Schumer for practically everything I disagree with.

It's not difficult, but Democrats seeking power hope to 'guilt' people into voting for representatives who won't support policies they want because they're...'nice'. And in reality, they aren't 'nice' at all.

Don't fall for the BS.

Talarico will vote to reinstate USAID type spending which line Democratic pockets (looking at you Stacey Abrams). If you are for that, Suburbanites, go ahead and just call yourself a Democrat.

Faced with Snake vs. Snake Oil, then?

I'll need to go to a tie breaker.

Which one isn't for open borders, transing kids, men in women's sports, taxes on unrealized gains, packing the Supreme Court, and doing away with the EC?

Fortunately for Paxton, all of the false preacher stuff from Talarico outshines Paxton's "poor Christian" criticisms.

Don't learn the wrong lesson from 2024. All the trans ads were effective not because people actually care much about that issue, but because it told them that the Dems spent their time on stuff they didn't care about.

Most voters don't care about the stuff that animates F16, and so it only really resonates if there is something else to hold it up. Most of the "Talarico is a weirdo, vegan, fake Christian" stuff isn't going to move the needle with swing voters. If people are really pissed at Trump the democrats have a chance in the race. If not, then not

Swing voters dislike phony politicians. His views on vegan campaigns, 6 genders, fake christian-y stuff is actually going to be a big tell for the part of the electorate that doesn't check in until late.

Do you really think the culture war stuff will have the same sway on these elections as in the past? I think the economy will matter much more. Paxton will try to steer the conversation towards the culture stuff, but I don't think that is what is going to get voters motivated this cycle.

It will hit with hispanic and black males and that is a demo that Talarico needs to come out in droves for him. It's why Mayor Pete will never be President. Those folks don't like the gay/trans stuff. At all. They may not vote Paxton but they may not vote at all.

What part it's not true?

Cornyn should've been pushing for it. He was not. He rarely (if ever) even talked about it from what I can tell.

They didn't have 50 votes. Which person was going to change their mind?

Cornyn was friends with all of them. He could have pushed for a compromise and gotten it passed but he didn't have the will or the juice. Either way it proved for all his "power" he couldn't get a bill passed that 80% of the public wants even with his political life at stake. He didn't even fight for it. Hell if he had just gone on the Senate floor and pressured his holdout friends that may have saved him but he basically acted like Thune.

This is on-target analysis aggie93!

It would have much easier for him if he had made those moves you described!

Simple!

what "compromise" was going to get a Bill passed that Trump would be OK with signing?

Trump had already said he was not going to sign the version that was out there. He wanted additional things added. But y'all think he would be OK with a compromise Bill? What color is the sky in this world?

Have to agree with gipper here. The Bill was not going to pass, but Cornyn dug his own grave by not constantly shooting from the rooftops that it needed to be.

What you are talking about is actually billions.

My $250k/year was in reference to that sob story in the Atlantic (New Yorker) about the NGO lady who was pulling that down each year pre-DOGE and is now looking at $20/hour jobs in the actual jobs marketplace.

Cornyn being friends with them pales in comparison to how much they hate Trump.!

Which senator was going to change their mind because of Cornyn's friendship?

As I said, above, regardless of eventual outcome, he should have done all he could to push for it. He chose not to.

I think we are saying the same things. Cornyn may or may not have gotten it done but if he had he wins. If he had fought really hard and vocally that also may have been enough. Instead he thought saying "I support it but it won't pass" was good enough while also saying "You must re-elect me because I have so much power and influence to get the things done you care about". It wasn't like this was the first time either it was just the final straw. Cornyn fought the easy to win battles that would benefit his own power, he never put his political capital on the line for something that may have hurt him except for Red Flag laws ironically. Only that was him using his capital against the people he was supposed to represent.

People had just had enough once Cornyn was finally up against someone like Paxton who wasn't intimidated. Paxton has many flaws but people know he is a fighter that isn't afraid to take risks and push for conservative policies. The dichotomy was obvious and enthusiasm won.

Paxton will win. It will probably be close, which will bring in tons of money and media saying Texas is purple, just as it did when Beto stayed close to Ted Cruz. Then they will waste tons of dollars believing this, as they lose again in the governorship, the Presidential election in 2028, the senate race in 2030, and the big elections in 2032.

The 36-year-old state lawmaker, who has railed against "Christian nationalism" while claiming that God is non-binary, Jesus was a "radical feminist," and there are potentially six biological sexes, grew up in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. Part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the church has been pastored for more than 35 years by the Rev. Jim Rigby.

Talarico has touted Rigby as one of his most influential mentors. The pastor baptized him, officiated his parents' marriage and delivered the invocation before his 2019 swearing-in ceremony at the Texas House of Representatives.
Known for his radically liberal theology, Rigby repeatedly clashed throughout his ministry with leaders in the PCUSA, which has increasingly drifted leftward in recent years as it hemorrhages members and entire congregations as they depart for more conservative Presbyterian denominations.

complete strawman. Thune didn't pass the Save Act because he didn't have 60 votes. He would have had to abolish the filibuster to do so which is something most conservatives have opposed for a long time and will again next time the democrats have 51 senators (which might be this fall)

'God Is Queer': See The Sexually Explicit Books James Talarico's Church Gives Kids

Quote:

The Texas church where Democrat James Talarico has delivered his radical sermons is pushing radical gender ideology on children, featuring books filled with sexually explicit content and transgender ideology.

Quote:

Books found in the St. Andrew's catalog include the book "Gender Queer," which includes illustrations of oral sex and masturbation, and the book "All Boys Aren't Blue," which discusses anal rape and incest.

"This Book Is Gay," has a chapter on the "ins and outs of gay sex," while the book "Becoming Nicole" tells the story of a gender-confused teen boy who identifies as girl with the support of his family. In "The Courage to Be Queer," the author claims that "God is queer."

Quote:

St. Andrew's, the church where Talarico delivered his sermon that asserted that "our trans community needs abortion care too," says it offers banned books so that children can find "affirmation in the books they read." It boasts that the books "shift our perspective, develop empathy, and see more clearly the call to justice among all people."

"We are a safe haven for controversial narratives right in the heart of Texas, the state that takes the top prize in challenged books. Take a moment to browse our collection of banned books and see what you notice … common themes … particular experiences and identities being censored," the church says of its banned books collection.

Lets not forget that James purposefully displaced a strong black woman from her place in this race. He thinks he is better than strong black women. It's disgraceful what he did to that community.

Well, that article basically kills his "christian" narrative. Very easy to see where Talarico gets his propaganda points from. I wonder if he also shares his belief in #4, denying the resurrection and virgin birth.

And for everyone's own sanity, do not read the comments on the article.
