Saw that a new Korean food truck is opening later this week by the CS Walmart.

What is a Korean food truck? Kimchi on the go ? Made by Kia ? Squid game theme mystery meat ?

Our Salad and Go location is likely to close, as they appear to be closing all non DFW Texas locations.

Quote:

Salad and Go announced on Tuesday plans to shutter 41 restaurants.
The closures include all locations in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, and a handful of stores in the Dallas metro area and Oklahoma.

Kettle survives for 40 years and its replacement Salad & Go lasts less than two. Pathetic! I suspect it's going to be another drive-through coffeeshop at this rate, as Dutch Bros seems to be taking over at least two locations in the Houston area (one already closed, one never opened).

That's too bad. I go there at least once a week but it's not surprising. I don't think I've ever had more than 2 cars ahead of me in line and it's typical for me to have none or just one. Maybe it's my imagination but it seems to be a little pricier now than when they first opened but it's so darn convenient. I wish there was Asian restaurant with a drive thru nearby too.

They should be on the highway. They would get a lot more business. But I can see how it would fold. Loved that place, though

There is one by me in Houston that opened about a year and a half ago. Don't know how it made it this long, never saw a single car there.

They are really good for their old prices but still decent. They need to add some kids items to the menu that aren't salads. Moms would be more than happy to go there, get their salad, and take care of the little ones.

One could say it was... too far from the bypass...

Salad and Go would have done better in the Old Macy's.
They could have had a real restaurant with multiple levels for all of us salad-crazed people that can spend days in a salad restaurant.
At night, they'd use one of the floors for a night club. Salad After Dark or something. People drink, get hungry, and come back for more salad.
They could also use the roof for helicopter / drone deliveries.

Bryan annexing land near RELLIS that could potentially be home to a data center. Knocking it out of the park.

While their predevelopment and announcements are top notch, they need to get something actually built.

HEB gas on Villa Maria is fenced off and all the lights were off. I'm assuming some kind of remodeling is about to take place.

For my Bryanites, anyone know what's happening across from Readfield's? They demo half of the building but look to be dressing up the facade and parking lot.

Bobby mentioned it on WTAW as one of the 2 beautification grants they approved this month. Looks like it will still be a car place.

Looked like they were digging by the tanks last night. I forgot to pay attention this morning.

Are car places "beautiful?"

No idea, but maybe after the city gives them 30k to dress it up. Maybe they can make part of it look like a boat.

Kettle parking lot was packed almost every Saturday and Sunday. I know because we went at least once a month.

Food was ok at the Kettle, but the tradition was the best. Ate at the salad place one time. It was truly bad.

Will be disappointed if Salad & Go closes. It isn't anything amazing, but it is decently good and is very close to my office.

My money is on a 7Brew since there is a Dutch Bros in the center across SW Parkway.

Little Caesars planned for 1705 North Texas in Bryan (near Texas and Old Hearne) right across from the HEB fuel station.

Can we have our Kettle back, please?

I miss Saturday morning breakfasts with those "monster" biscuits. I miss the Saturday morning crews & the table of widowers who were there every Saturday. I miss the older gentleman who would bring his wife in her wheel chair and meticulously unwrap her breakfast taco so she could grasp it easily.

Would love to see Souper Salad return! I tried Salad and Go, but it just wasn't that exciting.

I agree 100%. What ever happened to the"big announcement" that was supposed to be make that would change the area? This announcement was supposed to of happened months ago according to the Bryan mayor. City leaders keep making these announcements but nothing gets built or nothing happens.

It has been a few months, but the last thing I heard publicly said by council and/or the mayor was that the school board had not come to terms with the governor's office over tax incentives for the company.

Quote:

The governor's office and the Bryan ISD school board continues negotiations over possible tax breaks to bring a semiconductor manufacturing and research facility to the RELLIS campus.
During the May 19, 2025 Bryan ISD board meeting, member Joel Bryan acknowledged but did not give details of the ongoing negotiations.
His comments, which were part of the latest meeting of the BISD board's executive committee, came before the board resumed discussions in executive session. The behind closed doors negotiations have been taking place since September 2024.

That's certainly knocking it out of the park.

Like I said when it was announced. I'll get excited when they break ground.

I agree. Perhaps I am too cynical, but I think some of the public announcements on this one were to try and put pressure on the school district. In WTAW interviews with city officials, I could sense frustration with BISD from them.

You'd think they'd negotiate with the entity that takes the lion's share of the property taxes first. That would be my move, check the big square first?

Thanks for asking. I have been wondering the same thing. I don't know but was wondering if the "data center" was supposed to be it.

ETA thanks for the update above.

It always gets me thinking what would an area look like if they only charged school taxes on residential properties. My guess is that businesses and thus employment would boom.
