I agree with the former. Regarding the latter, I was under the impression that they moved due to not paying rent. Shows what I know lol

Something's not adding up.

What would make more sense I would think is the new owner saw how well they were doing and decided to increase rent on them. Then, they thought "well if we're gonna pay more why not go to a newer facility". Just a guess.

Lisa told us this morning that she offered to pay higher rent and the new owner still kicked her out.

Ahh. Well hopefully it works out for them. As for the new owner it's going to be interesting to see what he/she believes will do them better than the previous tenant.

The willingness to pay higher rent probably further encourages the owner to try their own restaurant. Think about it, the existing restaurant was profitable even after paying the rent. The owners think they can capture both the rent they were getting and the profit the existing restaurant was making.

If the new owner bought the property with the intent of opening their own restaurant, increased rent wasn't going to make a difference. Certainly wouldn't be the first person who bought property and kicked out the existing tenant because they wanted to do their own thing.

That is not correct. They were behind during COVID. The owner thought they were behind the city looking into his failure to uphold his agreement with COB.

I personally think it's a dumb move by the new owner if true. You've got a solid paying tenant. Take the mailbox money and move on. Why take on the risk and headache of running a restaurant.

Yep, Marriot owns La Salle and Stella. La Salle is part of their Tribute Portfolio and the Stella their Autograph Collection.
Both hotels are still locally owned, just fly the Marriott colors. This helps with booking/corporate travel rewards. Not too uncommon in "boutique" hotels.

Which ones? I was replying to the post about Ronin. The others are about La Familia.

Interesting tidbit in this article about Dustin Batson turning 3rd Floor Cantina into the Concrete Rodeo dance hall:

https://theeagle.com/news/local/business/article_583a7b35-7bce-4502-a1b7-a2798365e528.html

"Around the beginning of the new year, Batson said they will likely expand into the second floor of Mr. G's, the pizzeria below 3rd Floor. He said they will eventually work on a deal to buy the entirety of Mr. G's, which they plan to turn into a sports bar and barcade with games."

So, is Mr. G's going away or moving?

Maybe so. I'd like to hear what the owners of Mr. G's have to say about his hopeful thinking.

The Outback in College Station survived another round of closures by the chain. There were over 40 restaurants closed a couple months ago and another round of ten announced today. The Waco location was among those closed with this latest announcement.

Not sure how much longer the bloomin onion has left.

I haven't been to an Outback since a homecoming date in high school. Outback was fine dining in Beaumont.

Our Outback was in good hands under the guy who co-founded Grub (Jimmy I think?). Place wasn't my jam but j always felt he ran it really well.

If I'm not mistaken, the Outback here was under Tom Kenney before founded/co-founded Grub. He's now the guy behind Napa Flats and Napa Flats Bistro.

Tom, then Jimmy, then Tap. All great managers and great guys who have moved on to bigger and better things. Proud to call all of them friends.

JImmy Loup and Tom Kenney co-founded both Grub and Napa Flats. They were both Joint Venture Partners at Outback and Tom was the managing partner of the CS location from 93-99. Tap Bentz was the long time proprietor of the local Outback until moving on to Another Broken Egg.

Great guys indeed. Glad for what they did for BCS and I wish them continued success in their endeavors.

Used to run into Tom pretty regularly in town but haven't seen him in a bit.

I don't go often but almost everything is good there. Their lunch specials are kind of ridiculous deals for the quality and quantity of food.
