I know I don't eat out as often as I used to. Same with others I know. Just too dang expensive. I cannot fathom anyone's thinking of opening a place in the current market. Both the economic market and local one.
Another reason for not opening a new place is the unreliability of help. I spoke with a friend the other day who owns a very popular restaurant. He has hired 4 managers since January 1 and has none of them remaining, including one who never bothered to show up the first day of work.
But it isn't just restaurants. I waited 15 minutes to buy a battery at Walmart the other day and went looking around for someone to take my money. Walked all the way to the front cashiers' area and asked.
"No one showed up for work today."
What are they living on?
