Culpepper has a filing with the city requesting a public access easement be changed to a public way at their development at the old Hurricane Harry's site. The request is for what they call the "grocery store section" of the development. No other details given on said grocery store that I could find.

Wasn't it an Albertsons a long time ago? Maybe thats what they are referring to?

Maybe. I would think a grocery development of that area would be premature. Before Hurricane Harry's closed and the rest of the development went away, the Albertsons (closed since 1997) and some adjacent retail was a grassy field, with paint on the outside of the remaining strip mall reading "The STACK Field", though I don't ever remember anyone from the nearby apartment building actually using it.

Square One has been closed a really long time. Brauhaus paid their taxes and are open. Third on Main is also open.

Charlie Mac's still around though, right?

Oh man, I wish

Unlike many of his devotees here, he decided to get healthy, eat healthy, and is a brand new man inspiring others to do the same.

You can eat healthy and have an occasional messy ass burger.

Before it was an Albertsons, it was a Jewel Osco which I guess is/was some grocery store chain from somewhere else. I never heard of it before I came to A&M.

I'm so old I remember when students rode bikes and had to use the pedals, and rode skateboards and had to use their legs and feet to generate the power.

Come on man! You forgot the horses and mules!

Crazy to see this randomly as I talked to him on the phone just today for the first time in quite awhile and he sent me before and after photos of his weight loss and is unrecognizable.

Before it was an Albertsons, it was a Jewel Osco which I guess is/was some grocery store chain from somewhere else. I never heard of it before I came to A&M.

It's complicated.
- Skaggs creates partnership with Albertsons to makes new drug/combo stores (Skaggs Albertsons, the original name)
- Breakup of partnership causes Skaggs (later American Stores) to rename it as their own brand (Skaggs Alpha Beta)
- Purchases Lucky Stores in the mid-1980s, a store mostly in California
- Major lawsuits follow in California due to alleged monopoly
- End up having to divest Alpha Beta entirely as a brand
- Renames the stores as Jewel-Osco, another brand they have in Chicago
- Ends up selling them less than a year later to Albertsons

Albertsons closed it in 1997 to buy the old Randalls when they were closing it...and the main reason they pulled out of our area was issues stemming from purchasing American Stores entirely in 1999.

And ironically, in 1999, Safeway bought Randalls, then in 2014, Safeway merged with, you guessed it, Albertsons.

Sounds like the Ronin folks are planning some new things at the farm, including an indoor dining room. Curious how much, if any of the old restaurant equipment were moved to the farm.

ALL OF IT.

I talked to Amanda Saturday. They stripped everything they owned out of the restaurant including the bar. They now have AC in the "big barn" and will be holding dinners there when it's too hot to eat outside.

Think they'll bother to paint some arrows saying how they want people to use their drive-thru by then? I also wonder if they'll put a sign on the front door and/or on the drive-thru menu that says the opening date or if they'll just leave it with "coming soon" covered up.

Breweries have been dropping like flies the past year or so.
FlyRod

Breweries that perhaps have bitten off more than they can chew by becoming chains. Quality tends to drop.

BWD and Kinderhill seem to be doing fine. Solid, local establishments.

Alcohol sales are down across the board right now. Gen Z isn't consuming to the degree that past generations have, and the craft brewery movement has run its course. Plus, the cost of drinks at most places have priced people out. It is affecting the broader restaurant industry as well, as alcohol has traditionally been a large profit center for restaurants which offer it.

No one is consuming like they used to. It's not a generation thing. Everything is overpriced and until it corrects, sales are going to be down.

I see a TDLR filing for the Ever's (new mid-rise going up where Casa del Sol apartments were) leasing office at 319 University, which I believe is the Northgate Freebirds location. I think it is intended to be the old Northgate Wells Fargo.
