This group is a prime example of why scoring lots of goals matters. Goal differential can mean finishing 1st or 3rd in a group where three teams earn 6 points.

The way we fixed that problem in one district I coached was +3 was the best goal diff you could get so 3-0 is the same as 13-0 That helped some. I've experienced twice a coach still going for it unnecessarily and losing a started to injury for the playoffs

Germany plays their round of 16 match on Saturday but still doesn't know their opponent based on the 3rd place finisher system. That makes preparation a bit difficult. Will they find out today? Or tomorrow after all group games have been played?

And we just had a new Law change. Ball hit the ref which is no longer "play on". If it hits the ref and changes possession or creates an advantage you stop play and do a dropped ball.

Note to self, learn to stay out of the way.

The game tomorrow feels meaningless for the US. Either we win or draw and end up facing a tougher draw to get to the finals or we lose and face an easier road to the finals.

I don't know. Review for penalties, yes. Review to see if the keeper left early? Might be too much.
Booking for leaving early? Definitely unnecessary.

Based on the last ten minutes I've watched... this Scotland-Argentina ref screwed the pooch a few times.

Scotland shouldn't have put themselves in this situation, though.

The law changes 2 years ago added the booking for a GK coming off their lines. Since that wasn't being enforced they changed it again to stay on the line with no leeway but kept the sanction. Its a double penalty IMHO.

They need to lighten up on the foot.

I'm going to suggest that, if they are going to book keepers for trying to gain an advantage on penalties, then they need to get back to actually booking players for simulating fouls.

So Germany doesn't find out their R16 opponent until the matches are complete tomorrow. That gives them just 24 hours to prepare for their Saturday match. Seems odd.

Yes, if they have a substitution remaining. Limit is 3.

If they had used them all up a field player would have to step in at GK.
