The mismatch was apparent from minute 1. That's not the fault of the US players or coaches, its the fault of the World Cup and the women's game globally.Quote:
That was the worst advert for women's football that I've ever seen. As I lover of football, I didn't enjoy a single minute of that.
Agree. This is the same thought process used in Euro qualifying on the mens side. Russia beat San Marino 9-0 the other day.littlebitofhifi said:
But I'm also a believer that this is why expanding the field is actually good. Keeping at 16 and waiting until another 8 nations are competitive wouldn't work. Federations need to see the disparity on the pitch and decide if they're willing to invest to close the gap or not.

USA basketball teams have been running up 50+ point margins and dunking on far inferior opponents in the Olympics since 1992 and nobody has batted an eye. Now the USWNT does it on the same stage and people suddenly have a problem? GTFOH.

Yeah her's was really the only one I saw fault with. She has scored in the WC before and just scored the 9th or 10th in a route. Then she had a multi-part celebration that was a little ridiculous.Furlock Bones said:
No problem with the goals scored. But the celebrations got ridiculous. Especially rapinoe. But being a moron is her schtick and credit to her she kept at it.
In spite of it being 12-0, I was actually hoping Carli would score to tie the record for most consecutive WWC games scoring a goal (5).BlueAg2003 said:Quote:

Exactly. Pugh scored at 84'. This was her first World Cup. The Twitter critics would expect her not to celebrate because of feelings. What about her feelings? Her moment to shine? She's probably been dreaming about that since she was a little girl. The people commenting are a bunch of losers who have never played sports at a high level. There is nothing wrong with those celebrations. The only goal I'd say was probably unnecessary was Lloyd's in extra time.
I guess the pink hair wasn't enough to grab attention, she needed to make sure all eyes were on her after scoring, regardless of game situation. Classless.Furlock Bones said:

It's also her last WC (she's 33) so I'll give her a bit of slack.wangus12 said:Yeah her's was really the only one I saw fault with. She has scored in the WC before and just scored the 9th or 10th in a route. Then she had a multi-part celebration that was a little ridiculous.Furlock Bones said:

Oh, come on. You're going to call her an attention wh0re because of pink hair? That's weak.
Seems the opposite to me. The "losers" tend to be the ones with little understanding of the game or setting and fall more on the side of "Thailand should just stop them", "Every player wants to score", "Imagine if you scored a goal" etc. Just my opinion from the general reactions across social media and things like that.Quote:

I just knew someone would show up and bash rapinoe for her politics. Some people just can't separate politics from the game.Hand Of God said:
Simple solution for all of the grief this seems to have caused some of you...don't watch.
If you don't like Rapinoe's pink hair or political stances...don't watch.
If you think U15 boys beating these women discredits their talent...don't watch.
If you think they score too many goals or celebrate too much afterward...don't watch.
So many people here with strong opinions about individual players and a team they pretend to care so little about.
I think the comparison was about the score-line not about discrediting the talents of WMNT.Hand Of God said:

hold up...watching your team put on a clinic and demolish an inferior opponent like they should turns you off from watching said team?Furlock Bones said:Hand Of God said:

You just hit the nail on the head. What the US did with their celebrations yesterday turned off the causal fan. Make no mistake that doesn't help grow the game.
