France definitely hasn't hit their full stride offensively. But you can see the goals are there for the taking if they find top form.

France is playing sloppy right now, tbh. But the Brazilians are even more tired than the French are.

That French sub that just came on... man. She's Ligue One and I'm USL.

For all the time these ladies have spent on the ground, 2 minutes seems short.

Brazil is so tired all they can do is foul.

The big QF showdown is still on the table. Now we just need to take care of business tomorrow.

Beautiful.

Always happy to see Brazil go home early.

I'm glad that Brazil gave France all they could handle. France really didn't look that impressive to me.

France playing an extra 30 minutes might also help offset the rest disadvantage we've had due to the schedule. Still can't overlook Spain tho obviously.

I honestly don't know why you guys worry about the competition, it's the USA talent and depth wise......than everybody else!

Sure, each team has some good individual players here and there but the USA is flat out loaded with talented players and experience.

The USA will beat Spain handily (4-0) then it will beat France at least 3-1 (and only because they have to turn around after trouncing Spain and play the host is the score close)

Not sure what to make of Spain. I'd say 2-0 is more realistic tomorrow. But I tend to be a doubter.

Definitely don't think 3-1 is likely if we see France in Paris in front of their home crowd. Remember, they beat us 3-1 earlier in the year. I think either team could win by a 1 goal margin.

Assuming USA gets by Spain, France will be a toss up. France will play their best game. USA will have to figure out how to control Diani. She is a killer on the right flank. And don't foul in the final third where Renard can beat you in the air.

Let's beat Spain first of course.

I thought Sweden did a pretty good job of negating our attack, especially the strikers. We scored on a set piece and an arguably offside goal (with Lloyds position) via a deflection that took the ball over the keeper. I think France has a better defense and a way better midfield than Sweden does.

I do think the USA has the best squad across the board, but it's closer than these recent matches make it look. France at home will be tough. England is also looking better every match and they drew us 2-2 earlier this year as well

Olympics is in less than a year?

Wouldn't be surprised if she played in those. There's a decent chance this was her last World Cup tho.

I agree with your comments. I think the France game could be decided by who plays for USA. There is an 11 that could beat France, but what is that 11? The French I think are more solid as to who starts, but the US has so many options. Gotta figure out who should play where, who matches up best. I really don't know, though I think Rapinoe should sit.

If Morgan can go, do you play Lloyd as well? Where? She's just such a great goal scorer, but is she the best option against France? Gonna be interesting to see who Ellis goes with.

Assuming we beat Spain...

We haven't been dominant since the last WWC. Sweden knocked us out shockingly early in the Olympics, and we haven't shown well in the She Believes Cups. I think we looked great in the group stage, but I'm not taking anything for granted.

Is anybody here really worried about Spain? I'm not and I feel very confident about playing France as well.

USA should win, but anything can happen. France is very talented, and made us look bad in the friendly some months back. I think USA looks much better now, and maybe that France friendly was the kick in the butt they needed.

As for Spain, I'm guessing they will bunker and try to counter. If USA scores early, 4-0 is possible. If USA fails to break thru the bunker early, we'll see...

The US team is so offensively focused I bet every teams strategy will be to counter especially when Dunn, Ertz, Mewis, Horan etc get caught up field. I dont think its a wining strategy for a full 90 mins though.

Yep. That's why I think it's hard to leave Lloyd on the bench. She's the most clinical finisher USA has, and the quicker USA scores, the quicker the opponent has to abandon the bunker.

France won't bunker, though. That could be a wide-open entertaining game. I might use Lloyd as 60-min mark sub vs. France.

Where or when to play LLoyd is the hardest call imo. She's an awesome mix of an active enforcer that is also a pure goal scorer. I somewhat prefer her coming off the bench completely pissed she didnt start and then wrecks shop. Also having LLoyd come on as sub allows Ellis to replace any of Heath, Mewis, Horan, Morgan, or Pugh and completely change the dynamic of the offense.

It's really hot in Reims today...will be interesting to see if that's a factor for either team. Actual temp is 90 right now but feels much hotter & a far cry from the lovely <70 degree matches we've had so far.

No Lloyd, no Horan, Rapinoe starting. Hope I'm wrong about Rapinoe and she kicks some ass.

Can someone give me a brief recap of the Camaroon officiating and protests? Was the game clearly called in England's favor? Was Camaroon justifiably frustrated? I realize nothing justifies those kind of histrionics on a professional field, but on a team that size, chances are that you are going to at least have 20-30% of the women PMS'ing or on their periods at any given time, and that is assuming they haven't all gotten on the same cycle yet...all bets are off if the officiating is bad enough.

the main call in question was harsh, although it was correct

and it did not justify the ensuing drama from the cameroonians....England was far and above the better team

The big moment was a goal Cameroon scored (down 2-0) that looked good but was reviewed and called off for being fractionally offside (technically the correct call but one that never would have been made pre-VAR). Cameroon melted down a bit and the referee didn't have great control of the match from that point on.

In general the officiating was very uneven both ways, there were a few odd calls in the first half as well.

don't forget the Cameroon elbow early in the game that could have been a red or the spitting which should have been a red.

Well that game was interesting.

USA looked tired and Spain came out and played them physically which I think wore down a tired American team.

Not crazy about the referring either way. But more puzzled at the lack of clear opportunities by the USA, Spain played better than I thought they were and I think the USA might have gotten caught looking ahead to the next game with France
Grapesoda2525

Spain did a lot better than I thought.

Hopefully the US was overlooking them because the US didn't look good.
