Any coach that would teach his kids this has no business coaching.

We learned to defend that one at about the same age. And we had to notice if the ball actually made a full rotation on the corner.

I couldn't understand. What were they telling them do as a ruse/distraction?

Ahhh crap. We had a play set up where the keeper softly kicks the ball to a defender who is on all fours and heads the ball back to the keeper so she can pick it up and punt it.

That's handling by your GK, a yellow card for Unsporting Behavior for the player and the other team gets an indirect free kick. New Law or old doesn't matter.

That's a Pk and possibly Serious Foul Play and red card.

That yellow was way too late in coming. That was really cynical and unnecessary by the German. That card should have come out fast. This game is getting dirty and the ref needs to clamp down.

And there's the clamp with the corresponding card on Popp. Let's see if everyone gets the message.

Germany's first goal was textbook offside. And VAR tells the ref. The ref sees it.... And calls it a goal. Wtf. It won't matter, as Germany will easily win, but it's just so frustrating that the ref can't make the right call even after seeing a replay.

At this level that's just not a call you are going to see. The offside player didn't physically impede the GK and was probably 5 feet out front standing stationary.

The player was offside standing directly between the shooter and the keeper, directly impeding the keeper's view of the shot. Offside. Period. Textbook. Even the rules person the commentators spoke to said the goal will probably not stand.

If you don't think that offside player didn't impede the keeper, you have never played keeper.

She didn't physically impede the GK, she is entitled to stand there, and again she was well away from the GK. If she's moving laterally with the shot thats different. Does every GK in the world want that call? Yes. Is it ever a call made? No, because its not considered an infringement. If she was standing right in front of the GK or shadowing her by moving thats a different story. I would not be surprised if the VAR look wasn't to sell the call.

edit: Mind you I don't disagree. But thats not the instruction given.

You are wrong and so was the ref. Again, it was TEXTBOOK OFFSIDE. And you, as a referee, continue to defend the referee. Again, the rules person that FOX pays a lot of money agreed with me (AND FIFA).

Please tell me again why that was not offside, because FIFA disagrees with you.

And yet the FIFA referee with the whistle didn't call it.

She wasnt within playing distance of the ball. She wasn't anywhere near the GK to impede her physically. Did she shield the vision? Who knows. In the eyes of that referee she didn't. I didn't think so either. Unkel thought she did. The Law doesn't saw what shieldling the vision is. You as the person with the whistle get to make that judgement. If you think that impeded the vision, great. Blow the whistle and point for a free kick.

I encourage you to find your local state referee association on the web and sign up for a class.

I've been a referee. Guess what. I wasn't perfect. I made mistakes. I put myself through college by umpiring softball with my dad in the summer. Sometimes over 40 games a week. I was respected and liked as an umpire because on close plays, I would tell the player, "that was really close, I might have missed it."

And on plays where I got the RULE wrong, I would directly apologize to the team. They might have been mad, but they respected the fact that I admitted I was wrong.

Players respect that much more than "I have the whistle, so I am always right."

I have so many bad referee stories, I could talk all day without repeating one, and the thing they had in common was they all thought they were right and everyone else was crazy.

I don't know you, but I hope your judgement on the field is better than it has been on this subject. Referee like a player, not like a mathematician. Admit when you make a mistake, players respect that. Everybody makes mistakes.

Very risky. Close call. Now let's see if my theory about these kind of calls holds true. Australia will feel robbed and will gain momentum from this call. Norway will feel lucky and be on the back foot and have to defend well for the next few minutes.

I really felt like Norway stepped off the gas in the 2nd half and were trying to baby the lead. I dont follow the international scene much between Cups, so maybe thats not the case

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I dont think these are the kind of plays that should get reviewed.
