This is quite the pissing contest, but given the immediate and widespread reaction to the game all over the world yesterday I think you can pretty fairly say there's more than ZERO wrong with how everything played out.

I'm not against scoring goals, but looking at it, games like this can sometimes do more harm than good. A lot of the goals came off awful passes that just got lucky. This in turn builds confidence but also builds bad habits.

Not a soccer fan at all but yesterday was like watching the Aztecs drop people into the volcano over and over again. I loved it and can't wait to see if we give Chile the rented mule treatment as well.

Simple solution for all of the grief this seems to have caused some of you...don't watch.

If you don't like Rapinoe's pink hair or political stances...don't watch.

If you think U15 boys beating these women discredits their talent...don't watch.

If you think they score too many goals or celebrate too much afterward...don't watch.

So many people here with strong opinions about individual players and a team they pretend to care so little about.

You just hit the nail on the head. What the US did with their celebrations yesterday turned off the causal fan. Make no mistake that doesn't help grow the game.

I rarely watch women's soccer, but I'm going to try to catch the rest of the USWNT games...they beat a team 13-0! Casual fans are enticed by greatness, not sportsmanship.

Can you imagine the angst and press if they win 2-1?

Oh wow. Keeper makes a brilliant point blank save but Germany grabs the rebound and the lead. 1-0 Germany in the 42nd

What I personally think is getting lost in all this scoreline talk is how we actually played. Many of these goals don't happen versus an average team and we will eventually play a great team. I think rapinoe had a poor performance. Many of her services were over hit and not quality and she was the worst when it came to celebrations. I'm not sure why we showed so many different types of corner kicks and free kicks against a team we don't need them on because now teams have film on them and they won't be as productive. Call me negative Nancy but I see a lot of false positive out of this game

i saw they were up 3-0 and was like nah, there are just as many people that at least want it interesting.

I get wanting to watch greatness, but most casual fans want it to be competitive. Way too many other options to do/watch than a blow out. I do the same with the astros or pretty much any other team i follow casually.

Looks like we'll likely be facing Spain in R16 as expected, but I'll take that matchup. Spain may be the best possession-oriented team we face before France (assuming Sweden bunkers), but their work in the final third leaves a lot to be desired.

This and what agvet12 said. it was painfully obvious how terrible Thailand was and the US took advantage. zero issue with the scoring, nor the celebrations. but against better teams, most of that **** wont fly. Sloppy passes, bad touches that would not have lead to shots on goal, let alone goals scored against a team that knew what the hell they were doing. Chile aint doing dick against the US, but Sweden may punch the team in the mouth if they allow the scoreline to go to their heads.

Offside on France when Norway plays the ball?

Norway stealing this one or even drawing would be huge for the U.S. as we could then possibly avoid France in the QF.

Yeah I'm a little surprised. Despite the score line, I didn't think Norway looked as dominant over Nigeria as pundits were implying.

That was less of a clearance and more of a beautifully finished own goal.

The center referee in the France Norway game does Bundasleiga matches. This game has to look in all mo to her. Should be good.

That's certainly reckless. Its borderline excessive with that force and the strike point at near the knee. Yellow and PK all the way.

Exactly. Pugh scored at 84'. This was her first World Cup. The Twitter critics would expect her not to celebrate because of feelings. What about her feelings? Her moment to shine? She's probably been dreaming about that since she was a little girl. The people commenting are a bunch of losers who have never played sports at a high level. There is nothing wrong with those celebrations. The only goal I'd say was probably unnecessary was Lloyd's in extra time.

Are you guys deliberately misunderstanding what people have a problem with? It's specifically the veterans scoring at the end of the game and doing ridiculous celebrations. No one cares about younger players scoring their first goals, smart people don't care about scoring 13.
Personally, I'm not really even bothered by the celebrations, but they do look like jerks for doing it and it's silly to act like they didn't.
